In 2020 our town will be 69 years old. But really it is a hundred years older.
In 1797 Tsar Paul I gave the villages of Maly and Bolshoy Makatelem to Prince Andrei Ivanovich Vyazemsky of Nizhny Novgorod. Then in 1804 Andrei Ivanovich accepted the marriage of his daughter Katherine Andreevna Vyazemskaya and writer, historiographer Nikolai Mikhailovich Karamzin. Their son Alexander Nikolayevich Karamzin has lived here most of his life. He went to the family estate after retiring from military service. His first plans were arranging a big garden, building a hospital and a school for villagers and their children. In 1850 he married Princess Natalia Vasilievna Obolenskaya. Together they came up with the idea of transforming the area. In honor of the beloved Karamzin gave the name Tashino to the settlement and built an iron smelting plant Tashinskiy. That was the beginning of the small settlement’s history.
