Storyjumper is a fun and engaging way for students to write books, create characters, share their creations, collaborate on class or partner books, narrate their books, and read other people's books from all over the world!

You can search by topic and have hundreds of books to read, be sure to remind students that these books may not always have correct or up-to-date information. And they may use some language that is not appropriate in Canadian contexts (i.e. use of terms such as 'American Indian").

This search was for "Chinese", they also have books in many languages.

You can go to "Help" for Lesson Plans, book templates for students to use, and many other writing ideas to encourage collaboration.

This is what the student page looks like, note that students do not have to use a profile picture. They can create, read or edit classmates' books or read books from the collective Storyjumper library.

Major Drawback:

It can only be used on a computer: desktop or laptop. They are currently working on IOS capabilities, which will make this website much more accessible.

Offers so many benefits to students that it is worth seeking out laptops or computer lab time to use it!

Use of Storyjumper would address many BC Curriculum Big Ideas, from Language Arts to ADST; however, there are numerous cross-curricular links that can also be developed!

This website transforms the way that students write. Not only can students write, create, and collaborate, they can use new technology tools. These help them to publish, share their knowledge and ideas across the planet- something previously inconceivable, thus reaching the stage of Redefinition in the SAMR Model developed by Dr. Rueben Puentedura. (2014)
