From studying Rihanna, I have learned that advocating for yourself is just as important as advocating for others. She demonstrates that advocating for yourself is to help yourself and others. Dedicating time and money to helping others and people in need is something Rihanna has done. Little things can make a big difference. Donating money to help others shows you care. She continues to donate while inspiring people to do the same. I hope people will learn and be inspired to advocate for their beliefs after reading this book. Standing up and advocating for your beliefs and for people is something I hope young people will learn from this book.

Robyn Rihanna Fenty or better known by her stage name Rihanna, was born on February 20, 1988,St. Michael Parish. She grew up on the island of Barbados. Her mother is Monica Braithwaite, and her father is Ronald Fenty. Her mother is Guyanese, and her father is Barbadian.

Also her mother was an accountant and her father was a warehouse supervisor. Money was always low throughout her childhood. To take her mind off of the problems at home  she began perfecting her vocals at an early age. She was influenced by her role models, Madonna, Bob Marley, Janet Jackson, and Mariah Carey. 

Growing up Rihanna was faced with her father’s drug and alcohol problem.Her father would come home drunk and have spent his paycheck on alcohol and drugs. When her father lost his job everything got worse. Food became scarce, and she had to deal with her parent’s marital problems.

All this became so stressful for her that she would get intense headaches, which led to many exams and the belief she had a tumor. She hid her condition from her friends so they wouldn't think she was strange. By 14 years old her parents divorced and she had to work to support her and her mother. Eventually her father recovered, and they became close again.    

Rihanna was bullied in school for her light complexion. Now she is named a major cultural influencer. In 2007, she started dating Chris Brown, before an awards show she found texts from another girl on his phone. An argument sparked, and Chris had assaulted her.

After that she became a major spokesperson for domestic violence. Also Rihanna established a cosmetic line and called herself an entrepreneur. From the wealth and fame Rihanna gathered, she wanted to put her influence to good use. She used her earnings from her cosmetic line,” Fenty Beauty” to donate to charities and to create a foundation.
