Hello, My name is Ms.Sierra and I'm a teacher! Did you know that one of my jobs is to teach kids about their bodies and how they can keep them safe and healthy in school? It's true! It's my job to make sure students are safe and its their job to keep it that way! What do you know about your body?

Place one hand on your chest. Breathe in, breathe
out. Do you feel your tummy rising and falling while you're breathing? That's your lungs working to bring air into your body. Your body is like a machine with many working parts; your skin, bones, and organs all work together to make sure you can eat, sleep, sit in class, and play with your friends. So what are some ways you can keep
your body healthy at school?

One way we can keep our bodies healthy at school is to learn about them! According to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute when children learn about the functions of their bodies, it helps them to understand what their bodies need to stay healthy.
Remember when I said your body is like a machine? A machine needs all its parts in order to function well and each part of your body has its own job to do. Your eyes, ears, skin, blood, organs, and much more! Do you know what these parts of your body needs to stay healthy? Find out at kidshealth.org !

What are some other ways to keep your body healthy at school? Staying active! According to Lets Move! Children need at least an hour of moderate to vigorous activity a day!

This means the children should engage in spontaneous and planned active, focused, vigorous gross motor activities in both indoor and outdoor environments.

Another important way to keep your body healthy at school is taking care of proper hygiene. This means washing our hands at appropriate times, covering our mouths when we sneeze, using tissues for runny noses, and remaining at home when we're sick!

According to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention many diseases can be or controlled through appropriate personal hygiene by frequently washing parts of the body and hair with soap and clean water!
