"Hey brat! Wake up!" said aunt cherry moodily as she threw a pillow at Jessica.
Jessica didn't budge. She opened her eyes as soon as she heard the door slam and got out of bed. She took off her pyjamas and put on her t-shirt and jeans.
She decided to look out at the small garden. She saw silver beads shimmering in the sun. As she did BANG!
"Oh your up!" grunted Jessica's aunt. "Wont need this then" she indicated to the bucket currently full to the brim with water.
"I guess I'll take it back downstairs- oops!" she added sarcastically, and she poured it over Jessica's head drenching her in cold, thick, muddy gushes of water.
Then cherry laughed and slammed the door behind her making the floor shake which caused the only photo Jessica had of her parents to fall with a crash. Jessica bent down and scooped up the shards of glass.
No matter how tempted Jessica to put the shards in her wretched auntie's bed she told herself no.
Jessica went down stairs to find an empty hallway.
She was happy about this for she knew that when she got outside of that door she could do whatever she wanted. She put her hand on the handle and pulled it open. she was unhappy because it was really windy and due to her auntie she was soaked.
Jessica walked down the path to the park. "Hey, where are you going" called Miss Glee "Where do you think your going? Its a school day!" "ugh fine" said Jessica and she stomped over to Miss Glee.
After class Jessica went up to the girls dormitory and found two girls sitting on beanbags near the corner of the room. "Oh" said Jessica "Oh hi" said one girl "oh" said the other. "I-I sort of wanted to be a-alone" said Jessica "but if you want to stay-" "Actually we were just going-" "Oh- no its OK" said Jessica
as she turned round and walked out. That day wasn't very good for Jessica. She got 3 detentions for snapping at the teacher and she couldn't go back to her aunt's house and see what those beads belonged to. "the day can't get worse" Jessica thought but just as she did "hey loser!" called a female voice "What do you think your doing in my hallway?" "This isn't your hallway" said Jessica and she carried on walking. "You are such a-" started the girl "What are you doing outside class when you should be inside, Miss Smith detention Miss spoon i will take 30 points" said Miss Glee. Miss Glee sounded more sharp than usual. "But-" Jessica said "Miss Smith, please don't make me give you 3 detentions" "but please-" "Miss Smith be careful or i will have to give you more detentions
or worse i will have to expel you!" Miss Glee said.
"How was your day?" asked the two girls who were now sitting on their beds in pyjamas. "From the look on her face-" the other girl said "It didn't go very well" Jessica interrupted. "Whats your name?" asked one girl, "Jessica" Jessica replied grumpily. "I'm Grace SparkleShine." Grace said happily. "I don't-I'm not- i um ARGH!" Said the other girl and she passed out. "Oh, my" Grace said quietly. "Um" She turned round and opened her draw. She pulled out a water bottle and took off the lid, she turned back round and tilted the bottle above the other girls head. "ARGH!" she yelled. "Tell her your name now" said Grace. "I um I'm uh ARGH" and she passed out.
"you-" Grace started. Grace heaved a huge sigh "her name is Cassandra" she sighed again and lied down. "well, goodnight!" "Goodnight" Jessica said, she sighed and got into bed. The next day it was raining frogs and ducks in other words: a lot.
Jessica got up, had a shower and put some fresh clothes on.
The silver beads were still playing on her mind, she decided that she would go back to get whatever those beads belonged to. Jessica decided to wait until the rain slowed down and then she would go. “I hypnotized Cassandra” Grace said as she walked in. Jessica looked at her dumbfounded “YOU’VE DONE WHAT?!” She exclaimed, startled.
“I've hypnotized Cassandra. Oh calm down it’s quite safe.” Grace added angrily.
“Her shyness was really getting in the way of everything, she was missing classes A LOT. Would you want to sit around and watch her pass out every time she was near people?” Jessica noticed that the rain had nearly stopped. “I must go” she said abruptly, leaving Grace speechless. Jessica rushed down the stairs, grabbed her coat off her peg and rushed out of the iron door.
She made her way back to the garden. Jessica found the garden gate and opened it.
There just like before were the beads, just in the middle of the garden, half covered in earth.
The heavy rain managed to wash away some of the dirt and now to Jessica’s amazement she could see that it was a necklace.
She grabbed the necklace and put it in her pocket for she did not want Aunt Cherry to see her.
Jessica ran back to the dormitories as fast as she could for it had started raining again.
She ran into the girls bathrooms and cleaned the necklace off with the tap water.
She knew that the bathrooms was the only place she could at it without people seeing it.
Jessica turned the necklace around and there were letters that spelled out: Jessica Smith.
Underneath her name Jessica could see: Opal Smith. “Opal Smith? That’s my mother!” Jessica said.
“But my mothers dead! How come this was in the garden?” “No, why were you in the garden?” said a chilling voice from behind Jessica. “Miss Glee!” Jessica exclaimed.
CHAPTER 2
The watcher
“Care to explain?” asked Miss Glee coldly as she stared and Jessica who had a look of shock and nervousness on her face. “I-” she said “Miss Glee?” asked Grace. “WHAT DO YOU WANT YOU FOOLISH GIRL?!” bellowed Miss Glee. From behind Miss Glee’s red-faced figure Grace said out of the corner of her mouth “stomp”. As a sign that she heard her Jessica nodded.
“Well? ANSWER MY YOU- OW!” Miss Glee screeched. Jessica had stomped on Miss Glee’s foot and was now cowering under the sink. “Oh your going to pay for that you foolish-” “Goodbye” said Grace, with that she punched Miss Glee in the back of the head and she fell to the floor with a bang. “Lets go” whispered Grace urgently. “Don’t need to tell me twice!” Jessica whispered back.
The next day.
The two girls rushed down the corridor and through the big door that led to the dining hall and took a seat. “Why were you there anyway?” Grace asked for the dozenth time. “I told you I was going for a walk!” Jessica said angrily. “No you weren't !” Grace shouted so loud that the whole dining hall looked round and a few fell off their seats. “How are you meant to know?!” Jessica shouted even louder “BECAUSE IM YOUR FRIEND! FRIENDS LOOK OUT FOR EACH OTHER!” Grace yelled. “THAT STILL DOESN’T GIVE YOU THE AUTHORITY TO KNOW WHAT I WAS DOING!” yelled Jessica “IT DOES! IF IT WASN’T FOR ME YOU WOULD BE EXPELLED!” “GRACE, I AM USED TO A LOT OF THINGS. BUT I NEVER WANTED TO BE FOLLOWED OR ELSE WATCHED!"
"You don't get it-" “I DON’T GET IT GRACE?! I DON’T GET IT?! I GET IT A LOT! I WOULD MORE RATHER BE EXPELLED THAN BE WATCHED!” Jessica yelled. “I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHY IM TALKING TO YOU!”
There was a huge gasp from the crowd that was now surrounding their table. Grace looked like she was about to cry. Huge tears were filling her eyes. “I-I c-cant b-believe you!” Grace sobbed “Y-you b-b-brat!” and she ran off crying. “STOP LOOKING YOU IDIOTS!” Jessica shouted as she sat back down. “Jessica Smith?” asked a squeaky voice behind Jessica. “Go away!” Jessica said “Excuse me!? How dare you!” said the squeaky voice. “Look-” Jessica turned round “I AM SO SORRY MISS!” Jessica cried.
