The President, Abraham Lincoln was
preparing for a play he was going to at Ford's
Theater with his wife Mary on the day of April
14, 1865. There was a great commotion
coming from the long hallway. Lincoln went
down the hall to see what the problem was.
When Lincoln stepped foot in the room, he
was immediately covered by body guards.
"What in the world is going on here", Lincoln
said to a crowd of people standing before him.
The state treasures were there and even the
Judicial Branch of Congress.

Lincoln was ordered to sit down because there
was an important message. One of the
Congressmen stated that there has been a
death threat made to Lincoln if he chose to go
to Ford's Theater. "Nonsense," Lincoln cried, "I
will do and go as i please." The warning that
could help save President Lincoln's life was
ignored and filed away for safe keeping. The
white house was in an uproar, maids running
in the halls, butlers spilling drinks, all because
of the death threat that Lincoln relieved. Many
people

were trying to convince President to stay
home, but he refused all of them. Lincoln was
determined to go see the play, whether it cost
his life or not. A maid named Christine came
up to Lincoln and pleaded and begged for him
not to go. Did they know something he didn't?
Again Lincoln refused. He finished getting
ready and summoned the butler and ordered a
nice glass of water before leaving the White
House. Mary was now ready and the couple
were escorted out of the house to the limo.
There were many cars around the limo for
protection, which Lincoln insisted wasn't
necessary.

The Limo arrived at Ford's Theater and Lincoln and
his wife, Mary, stepped out of the vehicle. They were
surrounded by body guards and guns. The couple
was escorted to the top room above the stage.
Lincoln was thrilled to be seated in the best seat in
the house. When Lincoln and Mary got settled they
talked and laughed about many sights. They were
having a marvelous time enjoying each ones
company. One of the guards decided he was going to
take a break from his post, so he went down to get a
drink and socialize. This was the mistake that may
make Lincoln loose his life. John Wilkes Booth, a
familiar actor at Ford's Theater got into the private
sector of the upstairs because he was very well
known. Booth crept into the Lincoln box, with a gun in
hand.

Booth held the gun to the back of Lincoln's
head. The gun was fired and Lincoln fell,
slumped over his chair. The gun shot was still
lingering in the room and echoing off the walls.
The theater was thrown into chaos as Booth
jumped from the balcony onto the stage.
Although his leg was injured he got up and ran
off with several other men. Back up in the
balcony, blood was everywhere. "We need a
doctor, NOW!" Mary said with fear in her eyes.
When the doctor arrived there was very little
he could do to Lincoln but wait and stop the
blood to perform a procedure.

They rushed Lincoln to the hospital to
possibly save his life.When Lincoln
stopped bleeding the damage was
apparent that he may not live. The
doctors did everything they could to save
Lincoln. "There is one procedure we can
try that could work." said the Doctor.
"Whatever it takes." Mary said. She just
wanted her husband back, soon. All over
the white house the news had been
heard. If only he hadn't gone, would
there still be this mess?

The procedure took approximately
1 hour. Everyone waited anxiously,
but Mary was getting restless.
Finally the Doctor wheeled
President Lincoln back to his
waiting room. He was not awake
yet and had many IVs in his arms.
The police arrived at the hospital
and gave Mary a message

that said Booth had not been located yet.
Mary began to sob and said that she will give
a reward to whoever catches him. "I want him
to know the trouble he caused!" Mary went
back to the room, the Doctor came in the
room and announced that Lincoln will not live.
Crying filled the room. Mary clutched Lincoln's
hand as they took him off the ventilator. Mary
went home that night, and everyone in the
white house was very sorry for the loss. The
maid that begged Lincoln not to go came into
the bedroom to take clean linens.

The maid approached Mary and
showed her sympathy, the maid
shared that she had overheard talk
from Carpetbaggers at the market
that Booth was going to
assassinate him but she was
scared to say anything. "Why
wouldn't you say anything!" Mary
said. She was very upset with the
girl. "I was not supposed to say
