It was March, 1864, Wong Chi was nearby
his home. He was practicing his practicing his
karate skills. While he was practicing, he got an
unexpected phone call. It was the President's
supervisor. She said that she heard rumors going
around that an actor name John Wilkes Booth is
planning on doing something to the president and
that she needed Wong Chi to come to Washington
to protect the president from any harm.

So, Wong Chi packed up his clothes and he was
on his way. The only way he could get there was by
a ship to California then a train to Washington DC.
Wong Chi just went on a random ship that was going
to California as a stole away. It took at least a
month to get to California and Wong Chi didn't get
caught at all. He was hiding in the shadows the
entire trip. So it was a good thing for him. Who
knows what they would have done to him if they
found out he was a stole away!

Then, when he got to California, he got on a
train to Washington. It took a while to get to
Washington since it was during the Civil War. The
train was on the Transcontinental Railroad route.
So the train made many stops at many places to
deliver and pick up stuff. Wong Chi was
surrounded by a lot of things most of the time.
But he got through all of that so good job to him.

Once he got to Washington, the president's
supervisor was already there waiting for him. Her
name was Susan. She told him that they have to
hurry and get to the White House. The President
was very eager to speak to him. So he picked up
his suitcase and they were on their way to the
White House. She explained everything that was
happening to Wong Chi during the car ride.

President Abraham Lincoln

When they got to the house, President Lincoln
introduced himself and told Wong Chi that he was
very happy for him to be here. After they all
talked, the president asked Wong Chi to do
something for him. He told Wong Chi to go out and
find out what John Wilkes Booth is planning to do.
President Lincoln said that Susan heard that Booth
was living in the Old Soldiers house. So that was
where Wong Chi was heading to.

It took a while for Wong Chi to find the house
but when he finally found it, he went inside the
house and hid in the shadows so that John Wilkes
Booth wouldn't be able to find him. John Wilkes
Booth was in the middle of talking about his plan
with three other people. They were planning on
kidnapping the president and taking him to the
Confederate Army and held him hostage. That was
all that Wong Chi needed to hear so he headed
back to the White House.

Now, it's April, 1865, it's been a year since
Wong Chi found out what John Wilkes Booth was
going to do. He told the President and Susan the
plan. Susan told all of the bodyguards to keep a
look out for those four men. But then, just a few
days ago, Wong Chi went out to figure out what
was John Wilkes Booth up to again and he found
out that John Wilkes was going to kill President
Lincoln instead! Wong Chi was so shocked! He
quickly ran back to tell the President and Susan
what he had heard.

After he told them what he had found out, they
were afraid. Susan told all the guards to be on
lookout 24/7 when the President goes out to the
theater tomorrow. Then she told Wong Chi that he
had to be with the president at all times. That he
can't loose sight of him. Wong Chi understood
clearly. He will do anything to keep the president
alive. So after they all discuss what to do for
tomorrow, Wong Chi went to his room to get good
rest for the big day tomorrow.

President Lincoln and
wife, Mary Todd Lincoln

The next day was actually going good for the
President but not so good for Wong Chi. He was
worried sick! He was so afraid of doing something
wrong and that would get the President killed! But
he put all of the thoughts to the side and thought
about the good things that can happen. The person
that was worried the most was the First Lady. The
President was saying how happy he was and she
thought that saying such things brought bad luck.
So she was very worried about what might happen
tonight.
