You might be wondering what's Ratio and
Rate, well i am going to show what it's about.

To make it easier to understand, i am going to
show you what's Ratio and then i will show you
what's Rate, so it will be clear and easier to
understand and to see the differences.

Kate has 5 animals, 2 dogs and 3 rabbits.

If i ask you the rate of rabbits to dogs, what will the ratio
be?

TO
The ratio will be 3:2 and that's because they are
asking us from RABITS TO DOGS.

If it asks you the ratio of dogs to total of animals, what will
your answer be??

+

The answer will obviously be 2: 5, because there are 2
dogs and the total of animals is 5.

Now you kind of get what Ratio is about, there is so much
more about ratio but today's class is going to be about
rate, so let's see.

You might be asking yourself what's the differences
between ratio and rate. Well i will show you.
Rate:A comparison of two quantities with the SAME units.
Ratio:A comparison of two quantities expressed in
DIFFERENT units.

The difference will be as i said
before, Ratio is comparing by using
SAME units and rate by using
DIFFERENT units.

I will show you an easy example of Rate.
Brian has his own car and he rides it from his house to his
job. He rides 240km (kilometers) in 2 hours. How many
kilometers does he ride in 1 hour?

Application:

It's easy we just have to divide 240 by 2,so we can get the
kilometers of 1 hour.
240÷2=120
That means that Brian rode 120km(kilometers) in
1 hour.
As you can see it's not that hard . Now i will give you
another easy example so that you can get it better.

In the shop Maria buys 3 milk for $450. How much did she
pay for each of them?
+

+

= $4.50
How much will it be for each one?
We have to do the same thing we did before, we have to
divide $4.50 by 3.
450÷3=3.15

= $3.15 for 1
Knowledge:

Now, let's make it a little bit harder. I will show you another
example, but this time it's gonna be a real life situation.

Don't worry, it's not as hard as you think

Let's talk about the rice from Hong Kong and
comparing it to the rice selling of Peru.
Hong Kong:2k is about $33.95
5k is about $61.90
Peru:2k will be about $ 6.00
5k will be about $15
Now that we know what price of each rice selling from Hong
Kong and Peru let's compare them together.
If you look at it carefully you can see that if we compare the
rice selling of 2k from Peru and Hong Kong we can say that in
Peru is cheaper and that goes as well for 5k.
Our conclusion could be that the rice selling form these two
countries, Peru is selling are cheaper for rice.

Thinking/Inquiry/Problem Solving

Let's see what if the rice from Peru change and are
the opposite, the what will our conclusion will be
now?
(this is not a real situation, just another example)
Hong Kong: 1k will be about $15.35
3k will be about $40.50
Peru: 1k will be about $3.00
3k will be about $9.00
Here we can still see that peru has a cheaper
selling, but what if the question is asking you
which one has the expensive selling, what will your
answer be this time?
The answer will be Hong Kong and our conclusion
will be that Hong kong has the expensive selling if
we compare it with Peru.
Communication:

Well i was trying to show you what rate is by using a real
life situation. In short word rate is about comparing prices
or other things between things or subjects.
I hope it help, so have fun with math!!!
