Hi! I'm Geico, whenever you see me I will most likely give you tips on stuff from the book!

I better go there is a zombie!
Greetings!
Introduction
In this book, you will find just about every thing you need to know to survive your first few days in nights in Minecraft.

First Moments
When you first spawn, you will either spawn luckily or not so luckily. (Most of the time you will spawn luckily.)
Lucky spawn: Trees, water, and animals.
Unlucky spawn: Stranded on a tiny island with no resources.

First Moments Continued
When you spawn the first thing you should do is go to the nearest tree, and hit it repeatedly until it breaks. You should do this until you have at least 10 wood blocks, for crafting items later on.

Tip: If the wood does not come to you and pop into your inventory, you are probably not close enough. Just take a step forward to pick it up.

After you have collected the wood, open your inventory, and place on block of wood in a slot to create four wood planks. Afterward, use the wood planks and fill all four slots to result a crafting table. (Which can be used to craft more complicated items.

Wooden Tools
Once you have your crafting table, you will now need to make more wood planks for wooden tools. Place your crafting table in front of you and use two wood plank, one on top of each other, to create sticks. (You'll need sticks for wooden tools.

You can also get sticks from mining trees! (It's much easier to just make them.)
Wooden Tools Continued
Now that you have sticks, open your crafting table and put 3 wood planks along the top of the 3x3 crafting area, and two sticks under it to create a wooden pickax. This will be perfect for mining coal ore and stone.

After you have crafted your pickax, you should now craft your wooden sword for protection against hostile mobs. Start by going to your crafting table, and put two wood planks on top of each other, and a stick under it.

Now, craft a wooden axe by stacking two sticks on top of each other in the center of the crafting table and three wood planks. One on top of the stick, one left of the stick, and one under the plank that is left of the stick. The tool will help you chop wood a lot quicker than just your hand.

You can also skin the bark off of a tree!
After you have completed the wooden axe, make a shovel by placing one wood plank at the top of the middle section of the crafting table, and two sticks under it. Wooden shovels are perfect for digging snow, dirt, gravel... ect.

Wooden tools are just to get you started, they don't last nearly as long as other tools made from other materials, and they don't have as much attack damage as other tools either. You can also repair worn down tools by combining two tools of the same time in your crafting table!

Torch Time
Monsters spawn in areas that are dark enough, so you will need a light source before night time. So use your wooden pickax and look for coal which looks like stone with black flecks in it. The torch recipe is a piece of coal and a stick. (It equals four torches. Coal can be found in cliff faces or underground.)

If you can't find coal, it will be fine. You can smelt wood in your furnace to make charcoal.

Torch Time Continued
Shelter!
Unless you love going on adventures, and fighting monsters, you should probably make a shelter for the night. After everything you have done today, there is not much time left in the day, so you should not think about trying to build a house. Go to the nearest cliff face and mine into it. Use your torches to light up the place.
