Our seagull friend Meli and Rose, his girlfriend and their adventures...

It is a splendid afternoon and the seagull Meli and his girlfriend Rose walk on the seashore. What a nice water! - Meli says- blue and bubbling! Rose looks away protecting her eyes from the sun. Beautiful indeed beautiful! she exclaims sighing!

The sea is so beautiful that even the sun bathes! A swim every day at the end of the afternoon ... he puts on his old costume with suspenders and lets himself be bombed from the sky! Meli and Rose seagulls see it emerge from the water, float and swim a little and then stop with a sad look.

What happens? - Rose exclaims. Something's wrong, Meli says. The Sun comes out of the water with difficulty with all the rays covered by ... by ... the two seagulls are gobsmacked, they do not believe their eyes ...

It is rubbish!! - the seagulls Meli and Rose shout in chorus. Meanwhile, the sad sun has reached the beach: small and large bottles dangle from its rays, along with envelopes and shopping bags, caps, deflated balloons, flat plastic cutlery glasses.

plastic, plastic and more plastic ... now in the sea there is more plastic than water! - the Sun sighs towards Meli and Rose. - You too have noticed birds: whole islands of plastic bottles float on the water and sail up and down the oceans- 

The two seagulls nod and get a little closer to the Sun ...

All this plastic is not good for the sea nor for its inhabitants - the Sun continues to speak. If I wanted I could burn the garbage with my heat but the stench would be terrible and would make everyone sick. The Rose seagull rests her purse on the sand of the beach and says: We will help you to get rid of this stuff!

Meli and Rose fly over the waves, dive to collect waste and deposit it on the beach. At the end of the work they accumulated a mountain of garbage. The Sun Meli and Rose observe it worried. - And now? what could we do with all this plastic? Rose asks. We certainly cannot leave it here - Meli says. Rose sighs: it would take a fairy magic and make everything disappear!

While the Sun Meli and Rose are looking for a solution, a van arrives and stops a few steps from the mountain of waste. Bravi! - the driver says - you have recovered a pile of plastic from the sea! now I load everything on my van and I take care of the recycling. -

- RecY ... what? - Meli asks . The man smiles: - Recycling: it means transforming garbage into brand new objects. Plastic should never be abandoned in the middle of nature or on the street, it should be collected and recycled-

Hurray! - Meli and Rose exclaim - recycling is the real magic!

Children of Augusta - Italy 

continue the story....

The man who picked up the plastic waste collected by Meli and Rose rewards them with an exceptional gift: a plane to travel with without getting tired so that he can go and clean other seas from plastic!

 Meli and Rose are planning to leave for Augusta and the S. Croce Lighthouse to collect all the rubbish abandoned on the cliff.

Once arrived at the S. Croce Lighthouse they are enchanted by the beauty of the place! After cleaning the whole cliff from the plastic, they think of going to visit the Castle and the gardens, where they rest and also take a 

granita with brioche and an ice cream! Meli and Rose are really in love! and start dancing in the cool,under the trees, flying with the fantasy! 

They notice a nice little beach just below the Castle and they think they are going to have a nice bath and then they rest on the sand cuddling. . .

While Meli and Rose are resting on the beach, suddenly something is stirring in the sea and calling for help! Meli dives immediately and saves a poor little kitten who fell into the sea and couldn't swim. Rose dries her and comforts her by reassuring her. 

The kitten's name is Sofia and from that moment on they become friends! All three return to the S. Croce Lighthouse and take a boat and leave for Greece to see the lighthouse of Rethymno

On the beautiful beach of Rethymno Meli and Rose find beautiful deckchairs and umbrellas made of recycled plastic that they had recovered! Wonderful! Crete is beautiful and there is born their little daughter, Gabbianella Elena! Oh, yeah! They call her Elena in homage to St. Helen's lighthouse where they come from!

So they think about going back to the lighthouse in Augusta and from that day Meli and Rose can be seen on the top of the lighthouse lantern of St. Helena checking that the sea is always clean and happy.
