Guiney Gets News

Guiney woke up and knew that it was going to be a great day!
It was time to go to school!

Guiney loves school!
She loves her teachers, her friends, and her classes!
Every day was a new adventure at school.

But when Guiney got downstairs, Mama Penguin had some news.
"There's no school today," she said.

Guiney was excited! "Really?! Now I can play with the toy grandma sent me for my birthday! Today's going to be great!"

Grandma didn't just send any toy, she sent a Captain P action figure! Captain P is Guiney's favorite superhero, because he always finds a way to save the world.

Guiney played with Captain P
all day long! She decided that tomorrow she would bring him along for her playdate. Guiney and her friends could play superheroes!

The next day, Guiney was all ready to go on her playdate, but Mama Penguin had bad news again.
"I'm sorry Guiney, but you can't see your friends for a while. There's a sickness that's going around, and we have to protect each other by keeping our distance until it's safe."

"You mean like when you were sick, and you said you couldn't kiss me until you felt better?", asked Guiney.
"Kind of, but this might last longer because doctors don't have medicine for this sickness yet. But they're working on it. That's why we all have to do our part to keep ourselves and everyone else safe."

"But- but what about my birthday party? We're supposed to go to Penguin Pizza Parlor next week! With the Captain P cake!" cried Guiney.
"I'm sorry sweetie, but we have to cancel the party. We can still have cake though!"

Now Guiney was really upset. No birthday party? No friends? No school? How would she have any fun?

Guiney was so upset, she ran up to her room, crying all the way and slammed the door. She was so upset that she didn't even realize when she dropped Captain P at the bottom of the stairs.

Guiney was still crying when Papa Penguin came in.
"Hey, there! You dropped this." He was holding Captain P. Papa Penguin always knew how to cheer Guiney up.
"What's got you so down, Guin?"

"I just wanna see my friends! And celebrate my birthday! I don't understand why we can't do anything!" Guiney wailed.
"Well," started Papa Penguin, "What would Captain P do?"
Guiney paused and thought for a bit, "He'd do everything he could to keep everyone safe."
"Exactly," said Papa, "We all have to be Captain P right now. Can you do that?"
