TYPES OF CAMELS
There are two different kinds of camels. The Dromedary camel is called the Arabian camel and has only one hump and the Bactrian camel which is the Asian camel has two humps. The wild bactrian camel is the only wild camel left in the world.

The CAMEL'S HABITATC
The Bactrian camels live in Central Asia, and the Dromedary camels live in North Africa and the Middle East. Wild Bactrian camels live in south Mongolia and northern China. Camels live in deserts, where it is hot and dry. Camels find many ways to help them survive in the deserts. Camels can live in cold weather and will grow a lot of hair to keep them warm and then will SHED their hair during the summer time.

CAMEL FACTS
Camels are mammals with long legs, a big mouth and lips and a hump on their back. Their hump is "Stored" fat. They have three eyelids and very very long eye lashes that help keep the sand out of their eyes. Getting sand in our nose can be a problem, but not for camels because the camel can close their nostrils during a sand storm. Camels have hoofs for feet that are big and only have two toes . Because their feet are big, it helps them not to sink in the sand. Camels are used like a car and will take people where they want to go. They can carry about 375 to 600 lbs. on their back and can run slow or very fast.

WHAT CAMELS EAT
Camels are herbivores., meaning they don't eat meat.
Camels eat twigs, desert bushes, dried leaves, seeds, bones, dried grass, even prickly pear cactus. The camel's hump actually stores fat and is used when the camel can't find food. If the fat is used, the hump will look like it disappeared until the camel either finds something to eat or drinks water. Drinking a lot of water is very important for camels. They can drink 30 gallons of water in 13 minutes and can go without food for six-seven months.
CAMEL BABIESc
Baby camels are born without humps, can walk 30 minutes and can run a a few hours after they are born. When they are born they can weigh 80-125 pounds and stand more than 4 feet tall. A baby camel sounds like a lamb and says "baa" when they want their mommy. The mommy and baby camel are very, very close, and will stay together for many many years.
