Once upon a time, far far way in a
big castle full of knights lived
King Arthur.
The city knew all about the power
of King Arthur.

King Arthur was a very powerful
man.
No one ever stood up to him. He
would win every battle. Being the
king of the round table, made him
have knights surround him.

The castle was always well
protected by soldiers.
It was weird to have someone
visit without King Arthur knowing.

"In the midst of their festivities, and
enormous man- who is entirely green
bounced through the door."

One day while King Arthur and his knights
were celebrating Christmas at the castle, a
big strange man walked in.
This strange man was so big. He looked
very serious and mad.

But the huge man came unarmed, without helmet or haubrek,"

All of King Arthur's knights were
so frightened. They believed that
this giant man was going to come
in and kill them all.

All I want is a Christmas Game!

"And so all I ask of this
court is a Christmas
Game."

The strange man spoke out loud and said
"I am not here to hurt anyone but to play a
game, a Christmas Game. I want someone to
step up and use my own ax to cut off my
head. Do not be afraid, who ever cuts off my
head will then go to the Green Chapel next
New Years so then I can cut off their head!"

"What! Can this be King Arthur's court?"

All of King Arthur's knights were so
afraid of the challenge that the
Green Knight had mentioned.
Since no one accepted the challenge,
the Green Night started insulting
and being mean to King Arthur's
court.

No Lord, let me do it!
"Let the King step down
And give Sir Gawain the game!"

Since none of the knights got up to take
the challenge, King Arthur got hold of the
ax and took it over his head getting ready
to take a swing.
Then Sir Gawain got up and said "No my
Lord, I cannot let you do this. Let me take
the challenge!"

"He held his head in his hand up high before him,"

The Green Knight was already on his Knees,
when Sir Gawain took a swing at him.
Just like it was planned, the Green Knights
head fell to the floor.
Their was something weird going on. The Green
Knight stood up and took hold of his own head
then said "I will be waiting for you Sir Gawain."

"The King and Gawain there
Laugh at the thing and grin;"

The Green Knight was magical, he never died
even if his head was cut off. He had powers
no one else did.
King Arthur's knights were so shocked.
Sir Gawain and the King laughed nervously as
the Green Knight walked out the castle.

"As the end of the year approaches, Gawain leaves on this quest to find the
Green Chapel and fulfill his pledge."

One year later, right when the holidays
began, Sir Gawain started his journey to
the Green Chapel.
Just like he had the courage to swing at
the Green Knights neck, he was having
the courage to show himself to the
Green Knight.
Sir Gawain kept his word.

"The lord of the castle welcomes Gawain and invites him to stay with him
and his lady for a few days"

On its way to the Green Chapel he came
before a castle.
He was asked to spend christmas there
by king of the castle and so he did.
Sir Gawain's reason of staying at the
castle was to rest and eat.

"The lord proposes that he will go out to hunt each day while Gawain stays
at the castle. At the end of the day, they will exchange what they have
won."

The King of the castle told Gawain not to
worry about the food because he himself
would go out and hunt throughout the whole
day.
Sir Gawain was only in charge of giving
anything he received or earned to the king
by the end of the day.

"Gawain resists her; however;
and on the first two days
accepts only kisses,"

Just take it.

No!
While the king was out hunting, the queen will
try to kiss Sir Gawain.
Sir Gawain would always try to stay away from
her because he did not want to get the king
mad.
The queen would offer Sir Gawain to take gold
and treasure but he never did.
Instead of taking the gold he accepted her
kisses.

"At the end of the day,
they will exchange what
they have won."

I bring to youkisses my lord.

When the king would return at
night, Sir Gawain would in return
give him kisses.
Sir Gawain was doing just like he
was asked, giving what he received
to the king by the end of the day.
