Tongariro National Park

This is the oldest national park in the country, Tongariro National Park. It is acknowledged as a World Heritage Site.
It is the 6th national park established in the world. There are 3 active volcanic mountains in the center of the park.The mountain summits are of great significance to the local indigenous people.The main activities are hiking and climbing in summer, and skiing and snowboarding in winter. There is also opportunity for hunting, game fishing, mountain biking, horse riding, rafting and scenic flights.
