The Anxiety Bug

Hey, is anybody out there? I hear you calling my name. Where are you? I can’t see you. I don’t like playing this game.

My anxiety is real. Sometimes I cannot control the things I hear, what I believe I see
or even the way that I feel.

When I am in the house, sitting all alone, there are times I do not feel safe, even in my own home.
I shift my eyes from the left to the right. I am not sure who is lurking in the shadows. I am so uptight.

Often, I hide in my room, underneath my bed, quietly listening to whatever is being said.
I hear the sound of the wind howling, airplanes making their way; I feel the thickness of the night sky, I anxiously await the break of day.

Going to school is not easy. The kids do not play with me. I keep to myself at recess, just to avoid their cruelty.
When my teacher comes and finds me, I know what she will say, "There is no one bothering you my child, come on out now and play."

I want her to understand that what she is saying is likely true, but this anxiety that I have, controls what I see, what I think and what I do.

It is difficult for others to understand my plight. I cannot let this anxiety bug win. I must put up a strong fight.

My parents contacted a "Special friend" that is willing to listen to my ordeal. Someone who has dealt with anxiety before and know that my feelings are real.

As I approached the office door, I thought I heard my name. I turned around and saw no one, uh oh, here we go again with the games.

I rushed into the office. I had no time to spare. This "Special Friend" has got to help me, someone really has to care.

"Hello, my name is Mrs. Kris. How do you do? I want you to know that I am here ready to assist you."

“If I tell you what’s going on with me will you laugh in disbelief? Or will you lend a listening ear and not just pity my grief?”
