Summary by: Paolo Gobo

In the summer of 1888, Mary Morston came to Holmes and Watson's house to tell them about Captain Morstan's, who was her father, dissapearance. She did not hear from him for 10 years. 6 years ago she received a box with a pearl. Since then, every year on the same date she received another pearl. In the same morning, when she went to Holmes and Watson's house, she had received a letter. Senter told her to go to the Lyceum theatre.

In the evening, Holmes, Watson and Mary had gone to
the theatre. While they were driving to the theatre, Mary gave a plan of a house with several halls and passages to Sherlock. The plan had a line on which was written “The Sign of Four“. In front of the theatre a man had come towards them. They followed him to the cab. They went to the house. Mr Thaddeaus Sholto, who was Captain Marston's only friend's son, was waiting for them.

He told them that Mary's father had died. He told them the story about her father's death. Mary's father died in front of Sholto's father beacuse he had had weak heart. They wanted to divide the treasure, but they argued how to divide it.

They went to Norwood to see Bartholomew, who was Sholto's brother, beacuse he had found the treasure. Bartholomew locked the door to his room and he refused to let anyone in. They had broken the doors and found Bartholomew dead. Next to him, there was a paper on which was written “The Sign of Four“. By the footsteps next to the window, Holmes and Watson came to conclusion that Bartholomew was killed by a man with a wooden leg

They had been examining the whole house before the police had come. The police arrested Thaddeaus Sholto for murdering his brother. Holmes sent Watson to search for dog named Toby, who can follow the smell. Watson returned to Norwood with Toby and Holmes was waiting them. They followed Toby, who was following the smell from a tar.

Holmes thought they were looking for Jonathan Small, who had come out of prison. Toby ran to River Thames. The murderer had taken the rented boat. Rent shop's owner, Ms Smith told to Holmes that her husband had gone to boat trip with a steam launch named Aurora with the man with a wooden leg. Holmes sent a telegram to the group of street boys who had helped them before. Next morning they came.
