General Description 

The Maine Coon breed is a large muscular cat with a 

curious expression, they are the largest breed. The body 

is long, giving the typical rectangular outline, with very 

long tail, wide at the base and tapers toward the tip. The 

head is strong, square muzzle and large ears. Eyes are full 

and round. All eye colors are acceptable for breed 

standards. They weight from 15 pounds up to 25 pounds 

in a healthy and normal weight. Their coat is waterproof, 

virtually self maintaining, it is recognized in most colors 

and patterns, common colors are: black, blue, red and 

cream with white markings, brown mackerel, tabby 

pattern or a silver undercoat. The Maine Coon breed also 

develops slowly and do not get fully grown until at least 3 

to 5 years old. 

Origin

The history of this amazing breed is that they are native 

to Maine, hints the name Maine Coon.A number active 

legends surround its origin. This breed is also hardy and 

handsome, plus well equipped to survive the hostile New 

England winters.Breeders have sought to preserve the 

"natural" rugged qualities. They have a clown-like 

personality, affectionate nature, amusing habits, tricks, 

willingness to "help" with any activities. Maine Coons are 

great companions for large, active families, that also 

have dogs and other animals. 

Temperament

Maine Coons are very playful, Friendly, easy going and 

good humored. Despite their size they are gentle and 

quiet. Smart and easy to train, love to climb, not as 

vertically-oriented as some other breeds, they prefer 

chasing things on the ground and grasping them in their 

large paws. Many are fascinated with water.
