For Thelma, my best friend. You always support or help me in all the work we do and without you I would not have been able to do this work. And Teacher Darling for explaining and guiding us so that we could do this work in a correct way.

Carol's father died in a plane crash since he was a businessman and to complete these businesses he had to travel, on the last trip he made the plane crashed into the sea right next to Hong Kong. And Carol realized this event because they gave the news on television reporting that there was no survivor of the accident, Carol was devastated, her father was dead and she couldn't even say goodbye.  

Carol's dad died in the plane crash. 

Carol started using drugs because she got together with new friends and they were different from the other friends she had, these new friends were dangerous and she started using drugs to be with them, one day the police come to her college to arrest some Carol´s friend, they didn´t arrest her, but she had to leave the school.  

Carol was expelled from school for consuming drugs.

Then Carol and her mom went back to England, they lived in London, in a hotel. They looked at all famous buildings, Buckingham palace, the tower of London and they went to restaurants and theatres in the evening. This was good for Carol because it was interesting and exciting and she began to forget bad times in Hong Kong, Carol was pleased they came to London.

Soon Carol´s mother needs to find a job, so that evening they looked in the newspaper a job offer for looking for a secretary in a private island. Then Carol´s mother telephoned Greta Ross and meet the next day in the Savoy hotel, later that day Greta says that Carol´s mother get the job but before Carol listen a rare conversation of Greta Ross with someone, so Carol was worried about that phone call.

Carol´s mother finds a job in an island and meets Greta Ross.

The next day they went to the island in Scotland, first by plane, then by train and finally in a boat which took they out to the island. In the island Carol meet Tony, Mrs and Mr Duncan. She's the housekeeper and her husband is the gardener. That night Carol and her mom meet Mr. Ross for first time, he was a businessman, about thirty. Mr. Ross had a gray horse called Smoke and Carol could ride the horse around the island.

Carol goes to the island and meets Mr. Ross. 

In the next chapter, Carol will likely investigate the island to find out where she will live with her mother in the coming months. Also, Carol discovers what Mr. Ross's secret is and tries to convince her mother to leave because the secret is that Mr. Ross earned his money by manipulation and that the people on that island die mysteriously. Then Carol rode smoke all over the island and felt all her worries go away until she found something that made her scream.
