My lock down experience
Our regular routines passed with joyful schooling and busy evenings playing with my friends. Suddenly, the nationwide lock down put a massive block on my routines, and I was looking for alternate activities. I thought of learning new things which I do not know. I was thinking, "Why can’t I learn cycling without balancing wheels which I can do within my apartment walls."
I learnt cycling with my dad’s help. In the beginning I did not believe that I can cycle without help. I was peddling with the hope that my dad was holding. When I turned around he was not there.

I was surprised!! Instead of being scared I felt happy that I have managed to ride without falling down. There after I have been cycling without anyone’s help.
I feel very happy that I know to cycle, swim and play chess. For all these experiences I feel this lock down period has been an unforgettable one.

My Free Home and Covid Out
During this lock down period I did not go out. There were no vehicles, no one walking around and no one visited my place.
So, I read a lot of books to pass my time. I helped my mom bake cakes. I learnt to whip the cake batter. I also loved drawing and have a collection of characters drawn.
My sister taught me to play chess and Chinese checkers.
Evenings I spent my time playing with my ball.
But badly, I miss my days out.

Engaging my sister
During this lock down, I taught my sister different things. I taught her to count, spell, etc,. One day I drew a cube and asked her to colour it. She enjoyed colouring it.
The next day my mom drew a few shapes and asked her to identify. When she drew a box, my sister started telling "Cube! Cube!"
From this I learnt that when we teach people in fun way they learn things.
When something is taught without fun element or suspense or process, the learners won't know the full meaning of what they are learning!

Lock down..... unlocked my creativity
It was a warm summer. My summer holidays had begun. Me and my family were planning to go for a trip. However the government announced a lock down in my city. It was about the spreading of a virus called 'Corona'. So we cancelled the trip and we were not able to go anywhere outside the house.
Me and my little brother Aditya, spent a lot of time playing together. One day, my brother impressed my mom by doing a shadow effect drawing. I was feeling jealous. I did not like that my mom is only appreciating my brother and not me. So, I decided to impress my mother and thought of a game. I took a note and cutout the cover page and drew a favourite food and made a flash card. I took that learning and started creating a game.
First I took two pieces of paper. The first paper was cut into small squares and rectangles and other shapes. Second paper I stuck all those shapes so that I could flip it. I flipped those shapes and illustrated my mother's favourite things and things she hated. Like she hates roller coasters and she likes water falls.
I named that game as “Close your Eyes, Roll the Dice, Pick your Choice and Hear my Voice”
The next day, me and my mother played it. We narrated our experience or memories about that picture in which the coin moves according to dice rolls. It became a super hit with my mom. I enjoyed playing the game listening and sharing stories about her childhood and mine. The best part was, my brother was also able to play with me. He doesn’t know to play many board games. But he enjoyed this one and it soon became our family entertainment.
The Lock down unlocked my creativity.

A memorable meeting
We were all bored at home during the lock down. We were doing exercises, gardening, playing as a family to keep us healthy and occupied. But we missed seeing our relatives and friends.
My grand dad was very bored and sad. To cheer him up my parents arranged a google meet to see all his brothers and sisters.
On the day of the call my grandpa was all ready dressed up with a nice shirt. The meeting started and out of excitement all of them started talking at the same time. When we asked them to mute they were not able to understand and they continued to talk as they were super excited.

Then we called them and taught them how to mute. The fun part was they forgot to unmute when they had to speak. But they managed to talk.
By the end of the call I was able to see that my grand dad was happy and cheerful.
I too felt very happy and good to have brought together my grandparents together virtually using technology.

Lock down Learning
The COVID 19 helped me know more about hygienic practices. I started eating healthy food and also understood the importance of being clean.
I used this time to learn about technology. I explored websites and learnt how to use it.
I had a lot of time to spend with my family. I had conversations with my parents to know what games they played when they were young. Then me and my brother tried those games along with my parents.
So I feel the Corona virus has done a lot of good things for me.

Memorable time with My Family
I have spent the lock down days with joy with my family and friends.
My father bought me Lego toy - Buggy and I assembled the toy in 2 hours and shared the photo to my Art teacher.
In the day-time, I spent time with my family, especially with my sister.
I really enjoyed the time when I helped my mother to make desert 'Gulab Jamoon'.
I learnt to handle Ipad and computer. But my understanding is, if these devices are used for long hours then it will hurt our eyes.
I made a time table to do my work and I followed it. It helped me manage my work effectively. I had 2:30 as my time to do my asynchronous work everyday.
During the playtime, me and my school friends played online games like Roblox,
To summarise this lock down period has helped me set routines and work independently.

New comer to school - In virtual space
When the school reopened I was feeling very shy. As days passed by I started talking well with my teachers. I have many reasons for liking the school. One main reason is teachers are soft and gentle. My classmates were also very friendly.
I was always regular in doing my work. In the tenth week, my math mam listed the 'Best Stars' of the class. To my surprise my name was in the list. I was so happy. I am aiming to have my name every time she shows the list. I am enjoying my classes and I am happy that I have settled in the new school.

Exploring My Talent
During the month of March, our Prime Minister announced complete lock down to save us from Covid-19. We all had to stay at home. I felt bored to simply sit. I started spending my time by drawing. My mother encouraged me to participate in online drawing competitions on the topic 'Corona Warrior'. I drew a drawing of Indian flag with various things describing about corona. I also participated in the drawing contest conducted for 'World Environment Day' on the topic “Green Hero.” I got medals and prizes in these competitions and I felt very proud.
I enjoyed celebrating Krishna Jayanthi at home. My mother prepared the dough for cheedai. I made small small balls out of it. My mother fried it in hot oil and I was waiting to eat it until my grandpa finished the pooja. The cheedai was crispy to eat. I enjoyed the whole day.
Even though I did many things to keep myself occupied, I am waiting to go to school and meet my friends and teachers.

My Dream Cycle
I am Kanishka. I live in an apartment. I have a lot of friends here. All my friends have cycle. Even I wished to have a cycle and it has been my dream.
I asked my parents and they promised me to buy a cycle on my 8th birthday which falls on 29th March.
Unfortunately a nation wide lock down was announced. So we postponed the plan and again cycle became my dream.
Finally on July 8th, we decided to buy a cycle. So my dad and I went to a nearby shop following the safety measures. Among various cycles I chose a red one and we booked it.
They promised to deliver on the same day but it arrived only the next day.
Finally my dream came true and it is one of my most memorable days.
After that I have been cycling regularly and now I can ride even without the balancing wheels. That way this lock down is very close to my heart.

Fun time with family
I had a lot of fun time with my family. We played cards and pictionary. I also learnt to ride my bicycle without trainer wheels.
I had fun time gardening. We came up with lot of ideas.
I met my cousins via whatsapp and played with them.
Even though it was a lock down period we found ways to have fun.
