Jatinga is a beautiful village in the Hills of Assam. The hill is covered with lush green tea plantations. 

Most of the people living there are plantation workers and everyone lives in a community. 

Nestled in the midst of the tea plantation was Little Cottage where a plantation worker with his wife and two children lived. The eldest was Pari,a tall and beautiful girl of 18. The youngest was Pranab,  12 years old. 

Pranab is so fat that he cannot walk fast or run ,he was as fat as a double pumpkin. So  people in the village generally call him 'pumps',they even ridiculed him as ' pumped balloon’ and ‘fatty the batty' . Still he has a sweet tooth and eats a lot, equal to his whole body weight. 

One sunny day Pranab rolled to home  from school. "Maa.. Maa...", he gasped. 

Mom asked what happened and he said "Maa, I got full marks in the test". 

Maa and Pita (Father in Assamese) chorused, "Wow !!!" 

Maa said, "Putra (Son in Assamese), I will make your favourite dessert - Qubani ka meetha." which is a popular Assam sweet dish made of Fig and Jaggery. 

“Qubani ka meetha !!” Pranab’s mouth watered, and he flooded the floor. "Go away Bhaiti(Younger Brother in Assamese)  disgusting yeww" exclaimed his sister Pari. 

He then grabbed the money from his father and then went to the shop. 

He bought chocolate. On the way home he bit the chocolate and then he heard a beep and a  robot-like voice said " I ...am...a... ma...gical... choco...late, you can wish whatever you want".

Before he could realise where the voice was coming from...A gang of boys called him for a running race” hey Pumps why don't you join the race to be a loser again”.

Pranab got angry and  wished the magical chocolate that he should be the fastest and longest in this running race.

The race started and Pranab was the fastest in the race.

His friends were amazed to see pumps running fast and he did not stop . It was as though he glided with his legs in magic. 

He ran 1000 kilometers in 10 minutes. 

He crossed mountains, bridges, fields and rivers. But it was blurry, very blurry, because his legs  very fast.

On his way he saw a cottage. He could not stop because his legs were not in his control and was running in magic . 

He said “stop”. But he could not stop himself from running. 

Then he thought about the magical chocolate and ate a bit of the chocolate and again shouted "Stop" 

Then his legs stopped with a jerk but passed the cottage and was far away from the cottage.

He thought of using the magical chocolate to go back to the cottage,but poor guy he forgot  it and had eaten all of the chocolate in his hunger without wishing for anything. Poor Pranab no longer had his magical powers.

So he  walked back to the cottage which took him a few hours. At last, he reached the cottage. It was very dark...  pitch dark and  spooky. 

The door was open,  so he went inside  where he could see a bright faced old woman who was wearing a pitch black dress and a hat. She was looking weird and Pranab identified it was a witch.  

Pranab cried, “ Please help me !”. The deaf witch replied, “Oh are you asking my name ?

My name is Black And White and people call me B & W ”

He was confused with her reply and asked “Are you deaf ? “ 

The witch replied, “Are you hungry, do you want something to eat”. 

He mimed “Are you deaf ?” to the witch. 

The witch replied with a cry , “ hmm… Yeah, I am deaf !”. 

She started,  “ It is a sad story”. 

Pump muttered “Hope this is not a boring story”. 

And she continued, “ it was during the World war -1, few of the witches cursed me to become a witch. I used to be the kindest  girl in this city of Kunming”. Pump exclaimed, “Kunming ?? , which part of Assam is this Kunming City”

The witch replied, “Assam!, I do not know Assam ?  Kunming is in China” 

Pranab was shocked !! he was thinking all about maa’s Qubani ka meetha.
