I’m Jim. Jim Poppyseed. I’m in the 1st grade and I am IN BIG TROUBLE. Grams and Gramps are kinda mad because I ate all the cookies we were supposed to give to the new neighbors. They said that if I screwed up one more time before halloween, then I wouldn’t trick-or-treat at all. So I was gonna be the goody two-shoes till I had all the candy I needed.

Well, the alarm rang today and I pulled back my comfy comforter that was sporting the Millennium Falcon. Just so you know, I LOVE Star Wars. I’m even gonna be Darth Vader for halloween. If I get to participate, that is. Well, when we got to school, our topic during circle time was “What are you going to be for halloween this year?” When it got to me, I said pass, cuz the Darth Vader thing is still in the box in case grama and grampa have to return it. When it was lunch, everyone talked about which wich they would be.

So when I saw Ash on the bus, I asked what she wanted to be. 

“Ash Catch ‘em. And I even got a little pikachu to match!”

She looked like she could burst of joy. Even the worst kid on earth got a costume. Uhg. I was LEFT OUT. Big time.

When I got home, grams was putting a big bag of candy on the fridge. I must have been drooling or something, cuz she had something to say,

“No way, Jim Poppyseed.”

I would not let even grandma get in my way.

I went up into my room. Time for operation candy ninja.

So all I have to do is sneak the ladder and get the candy! And no one will know. Tonight, it was show time.

So I was all ready. 12:00. All black. Click goes the flash light. Downstairs. Our dark basement. Out the door. To the garage. So cold. Where are my shoes? At last! The ladder. To heavy. Change of plans. Use the foot stool. In the door. To the closet. Upstairs. Assemble footstool. I’m up. Set the plan on the counter. Up, up, up and….

I slid on the steps of the stool and came crashing down. 

“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!” I shout, trying not to cry. Gran and Gramps came running. So did Ash. Ash passes the couch.

“Operation candy ninja. Hmph.”
