Chapter 1: Problems Around New York
New York has been full of problems lately that need to be fixed. The current mayor in 1898 is Robert A. Van Wyck and he does not seem to be solving anything. During the time between 1898 and 1914 New york city goes through five different mayors all trying to solve the problems across New York. Robert is just the start of bad twenty years for New York City.
New York City looks like a dumpster fire itself. Populations have grown so much through immigrations that the homeless population has spiked. with all these homeless more jobs need to be created. Which is what Robert kind of did. He and mostly Roosevelt made job for people as garment workers in warehouses and large buildings. Which seems to be working very well at first. Right now things are looking up for New york. But the city still needs to be cleaned up and the populations are still too high. Theodore Roosevelt really helped the city of New York in many different ways. He was very progressive as the Governor of New York. All the changes so far in the city has been mostly his doing.

Chapter 2: The Strikes and Garment Industry
The garment industry is not looking very well. The working conditions are the worst they have been. Pay is very low, working there is not the safest thing ever, and people are beginning to get angry. They then decide to strike up against the owners of the triangle shirtwaist factory. Max Blanck and Isaac Harris, the owners, experienced many of their workers on strike. Mostly women started a revolution because change was needed.
Clara Lemlich was the leader of this revolution. Over 20,000 people wanted change and she lead them all. She was a worker at the company and was not going to put up with these problems anymore. Max and Isaac at first refused to change. As any corrupt owner would do. They actually hired people to take some workers on strike and beat them up. This would happen for a amount of time but did not solve anything. Max and Isaac eventually had to give in and change things about their company. They decided on better wages, better working conditions, and the amount of hours worked per day decreased. But the most important thing is Max and Isaac did not allow anyone to unionise.

Chapter 3: The Triangle Fire Tragedy
On March 25, 1911, A tragedy broke out in New York city. A major fire broke out in the triangle shirtwaist factory. This fire was the worst possible thing that could happen in this building. Despite the owners saying things would become safer, they did not change much of anything. Once the fires broke out, the fire escapes were locked because the owners did not want anyone leaving before the fire. Many people had to jump out the buildings windows to try and avoid the fire. Many of these people died.
Reporters say they would hear people jump and right after a thud would happen. one hundred and forty six people died, seventy eight other suffered injuries. One of the main reasons this fire broke out so big and fast was the first responders lack of equipment. No matter how quick the firefighters would get there, the building was so high that there old outdated equipment could not help in any way.
In the end, lots of these deaths would not of happened if the owners weren't so corrupt and greedy. So after the fires had settled and people had mourned, a trial was held against the owners of the company. People found out whos fault is was and needed them to take responsibility.
