I dedicate my book to my amazing science teacher Mrs. Lewis because without her I wouldn't know
everything I need to create this book.

Hello! My name is Demetrius and we are going to go on a trip through our Solar System! Here we go!

3

Welcome to Mercury. It is 35,980, 000 miles away from the sun. It takes 58 days, 15 hours, and 30 minutes to rotate once. it takes 88 days for Mercury to
revolve around the sun. It is mostly made of iron. It's temperature ranges from
800 degrees Fahrenheit to -185 degrees Fahrenheit at night. Mercury's surface
is very similar to our moon's surface. Mercury has no atmosphere. There is no
air on Mercury's surface.

4

Welcome to Venus! It is 67,240,000 miles away from the sun. It's period ofrotation is 117 days. It's period of revolution is 225 days. Venus is made of
iron and nickle. It's temperature can reach up to 870 degrees Fahrenheit.
Venus is considered Earth's twin. Venus goes through phases very similar
to our moon. Venus has no moons.

We are back home! We are 92,960,000 miles away from the sun. Our period of rotation is 23 hours and 56 minutes. Our
period of revolution is 365 days. Earth is made of 32% iron,
30% oxygen, 15% silicon, 14% magnesium, 3% sulfur, and
2% nickel. The average temperature on earth is about 60
degrees Fahrenheit. Earth is the only planet that can support
life. Earth is 70% covered by water. Earth is the mildest planet.

6

Now we are on Mars. We are about 141,600,000 miles away from the sun.It takes 1 day and 40 minutes to rotate on its axis. It's year is 687 days long.
Mars is made of volcanic rock and iron oxide prevalent. Temperatures don't
get much above 70 degrees Fahrenheit and they can get down to nearly minus
200 degrees Fahrenheit. Mars is known as the red planet because of the iron
oxide on it. Mars is the last of the terrestrial planets. Mars has water frozen in
polar ice caps.

7

Welcome to Jupiter. We are 483,800,000 miles away from thesun. It's day lasts 9 hours and 56 minutes. It's year lasts 11.9
years. Jupiter is composed of gases hydrogen and helium, mostly.
It's temperature ranges from -190 degrees Fahrenheit to 40
degrees Fahrenheit. Jupiter is the largest planet in the Solar
System. It has a huge storm called the Great Red Spot. It is the
first gas giant.

8

We are on Saturn! We are 890,700,000 miles from the sun. It takes 10 hours and 39 minutes to rotate once. The year is 29.5 years long. It is made up of 94%
hydrogen, 6% helium and small amounts of methane and ammonia. Saturn's
temperature is believed to be about -270 degrees Fahrenheit. Saturn is known for
It's magnificent rings. Saturn is the least dense planet in the Solar System. Saturn
spins so quickly on its axis that the planet flattens itself out.

9

We are on Uranus. He-he. We are 1,787,000,000 miles away from the sun. The length of a day here is 17 hours and 14
minutes. A year on Uranus is 84 years! It is mostly composed
of various ices, like water, ammonia and methane. The
temperature of Uranus is about –355 degrees Fahrenheit.
Uranus is the coldest planet in the Solar System. Uranus is
turned over on its side. Summer on Uranus lasts one long day,
42 years.
