Rays mother, Suseria at the time of his birth was 16 and
his father was not much older. His father Elbert Ray
Jackson was often absent from Rays life and for that
Ray wanted nothing to do with him.
Young Ray and his mother.

Growing up Ray had four younger siblings and by the time
he was in middle school he was the man of the house and
was in charge of taking care of his brothers and sisters.
His mother wasn't home a lot because she had to work
multiple jobs to support their large family.
Rays childhood
home.

Entering high school Ray changed his last name from
Jenkins to his mothers boyfriends last name, Lewis. In
time, this will become one of the most recognized names
in NFL football.

Ray as a freshman going
to homecoming.

In High school Ray was a standout athlete who played
football and wrestled. He was often Criticized because he
was "to slow", "too small", or "to weak". He made up for
his lack of these traits with a fierce intensity that his
team mates admired. Whenever that a Big "POP" they
knew it was Ray.

School football picture.

To make up for rays lack of strength he found a
new way to train that would help him a lot. He
found a deck of cards in his house and whatever
he card he flipped he would do that number of
push ups. After he could do a whole deck of
cards with ease he added another deck.

To make up for his lack of speed he ran everyday, and
wouldn't stop until he could not take one more step. He
was like a runner training for a Marathon. His mother
once told him "you are determined for greatness!" and
Ray took this with him throughout his entire life.

Ray was always ready to show people that size doesn't
matter, its about how bad you want it. While Ray was
still in high school he took all of the hard times he has
been through and took his anger out on the football
field and made big things happen.

Rays Mother has been battling sickness since he was a
child. Being the protective man that he is he always made
time for her, even when he had prior commitments he
always put family first.

When Ray was a junior in High school he started to get
offers from colleges that wanted him to play for them.
But he wasn't sure that he wanted to go because he
didn't want to leave his mother and siblings. o when he
got an offer from Miami he couldn't turn it down.
Ray was the
starting linebacker
as a freshman.
