Globally, garbage represents a big problem as it causes massive pollution. It is said that more than 2.1 billion tons of waste are produced globally each year, which could fill more than 800,000 Olympic swimming pools. The United States is the largest producer of garbage per person in the world and the worst in recycling. Germany, on the other hand, is presented as the most efficient country in recycling.

In Colombia 12 million tons of garbage are generated per year, of which only a pre-average of 17% is recycled. Only in Bogotá 6,300 tons of garbage are produced per day and 15% is reused, being little for the amount of garbage that is generated. It is estimated that by 2030 if we are not aware of good recycling, serious health problems may occur.

With the new normal that we are living with the Covid-19 pandemic, the resident of my building are now at home longer and there is a lot of use of delivery of supermarket, drugstore, and restaurant, increasing the amount of garbage of different kinds, so it is important rethink current recycling management and improve this process. 

People who do not separate the garbage in their apartment and throw the glass bottles or glass containers through the garbage shut causing noise and accidents with the cleaning staff or other people who are in the garbage room. Likewise, people throw out all kinds of recyclable waste without their proper separation, which makes it difficult to collect in a more efficient and safe way.

Recycling is important because if we don’t recycle it would be a disaster, trash would be everywhere, we would destroy the ecosystem and the earth. It’s better to recycle. You can get many benefits like conserving natural resources, protecting ecosystems and wildlife, and reducing demand for raw materials.  Additionally, anyone can recycle.  It is also important that people become aware and do not throw glass waste in places that can cause accidents to other people, such as: shutting garbage from buildings, parks, beaches, etc.
