Hello friends, my name is Olivia and I am 8 years old. I
absolutely love animals and my favorite activity is playing
outside with my friends Kylynn and Trinity. I really enjoy
learning in Ms. Smith's class, but I also love summer
vacation! Every year my family spends the summer in
Sister Shapes, Michigan!

Sister Shapes are known for many things, in particular, the
many shapes around the area! Everyday I'm here I see
circles, triangles, squares, rectangles, and trapezoids! I did
not know much about these shapes until I began
vacationing here and I would love to share with you all
that I see and I have learned

For starters, my head is shaped like a circle,
and so is the first letter of my name! My
family drives to Michigan in our rectangle
car, which has 4 circular wheels.

The first thing I see when I arrive is my summer home.
My summer home is made up of 3 shapes: a square body,
rectangle windows, and a triangle roof. That's 3 different
shapes making 1 great house!

My summer sail boat has a triangle sail!

But where do I use my sailboat? Oh, of course! I
use it on my lake. The lake is called round lake, so I
think you can guess what shape it is...

I have a rectangular pier leading into the lake from the
beach. At the end of it there is a slide that my brothers and
I made a few summers ago! As you can see, it is shaped
differently than the shapes we have seen so far and it is
called a trapezoid!

When my brothers and I are on our best behavior my
mother takes us to our favorite ice cream shop,
Driftwood! Driftwood has a rectangle body and a
triangle roof. The triangle roof here looks different
than the one on my house, doesn't it? I learned that
this is because there are different types of triangles
and they look different from each other!

When I am lucky enough to go to Driftwood, I get an ice
cream cone with my 2 favorite flavors: mint chocolate chip
and strawberry! The two scoops are shaped like circles and
the cone is a triangle!

As you can see there are shapes all
over here, but now I think I should
explain to you some facts about the
shapes we have seen today! I will
begin with circles and triangles.

A circle is a round shape that looks
like the letter O, like in Olivia!
Every point on the edge of the
circle is the same distance to the
center. A circle is only one curved
line.

Triangles can be a bit more confusing
because there are a few different
types. However, some things that all
triangles have in common are that
they all have 3 sides, 3 angles, and 3
vertices, also known as the corners of
a triangle.
