About the Author
Ciasia is a fourth grade student at Case
Elementary School. She enjoys riding her bike,
playing with her dog Meeha, and hanging out with
her little cousin.

Ciara is walking down a dark, skinny alley.
She can smell the garbage in the
dumpsters rotting. She hears cats screech
and she sees the dim light flickering from
the street lights above. The bulbs are
almost dead. She is walking down the road
thinking to herself “What am I doing?”- all of
the sudden her thoughts are interrupted by a
loud noise coming from the alley.
She looks down and there he is...

Chapter 1

“Are you excited to start your new school
tomorrow?” Mom asked Ciara. Ciara and her mom
had just moved to Brooklyn New York from North
Carolina. It wasn't hard to tell that Ciara was not
excited but she didn't want to let her mom down.
Ciara was missing her two best friends Briahna
and Miah. She started to bite her nails
and then quickly stopped before
her mom noticed. “Yep I'm so excited
I can hardly contain myself” Ciara
told her mom.

Chapter 2

“Leave my feet alone!” Ciara yelled she
was talking to the most popular and meanest
two girls in the whole school. Miriah and
Monique were talking about her cartoonishly
large feet.
“Ha! What size are you anyway? A size 22 &
½ or something” said Monique. The hallway
roared with laughter.
“This is the worst day of my life” said Ciara.

Chapter 3

The next day was picture day and Ciara was in gym
class. Before class, Ciara changed into her gym clothes
and left her picture day clothes in the locker room.
“27 left, 13 right” She said. She heard a noise kind of
like footsteps, but she didn't pay attention to it. In gym
class they played girls basketball. Ciara was very
sweaty and tired but ready to get her picture taken
because it was picture day. She went to get her clothes
before she hit the showers but when she opened the
locker, her clothes weren't there! Then, outside of the
locker room window she heard a noise. When she
looked out the window there were her picture day
clothes, sitting right in the middle of a big mud puddle!
“I can't take this anymore!” Shouted Ciara, as she
stormed out of the locker room.

On a warm August night, Ciara Michaels
was in her room feeling horrible about going
back to school the next day. This was her
second week at Williams View Middle School.
Miriah and Monique were still bullying Ciara.
They took her lunch money, talked about her
outfit, and stole her picture day clothes and
threw them in a muddy puddle. The day got
even worse when she got home and found out
her mom had started smoking again. She went
up to her room and she grabbed her emergency
money. She had $200 saved up. She packed her
bag and snuck out the back door.
Chapter 4

When Ciara got out of the house she
started walking downtown to find a cheap
motel just for the night. In the morning, she
would start heading south, back to North
Carolina to live with her dad. She walked in
front of lots of apartment buildings, there was
a small space in between two apartment
buildings and she could hear loud noises
coming from that space.
Chapter 5

She looked down that
alley to see what the noise
was and there she saw a big
man with a crow bar. He was
trying to pry open a window.
She wanted to run, but she
was drawn to him because she
was so curious.
