"la Grande Bellezza" (the Great Beauty)
is a movie directed by Paolo
Sorrentino that won the Palm D'Or
in Cannes, the Golden Globe and
the Oscar. It's a film about nostalgia
for the past and the uncertainty of
the future. The protagonist wanders
around Rome looking for its ancient
beauty. The film stars important
actors like Tony Servillo or Carlo
Verdone.

The term Tarantella defines some traditional dances and the corresponding musical melodies of Italian Southern regions as: Sicily, Calabria and Puglia. Pizzica is another dance typical of Puglia.
In Abruzzo, an Italian centre
region, is very popular a dance
called Saltarella.

The most popular sport in Italy
is soccer. The italian soccer team
has been four time world champion.

Italian tennis player is Fabio Fognini,

The "Frecce Tricolori" literally
the tricolour arrows are the
Italian aerobatic team (PAN) of
the Italian air force, founded in
1961. They consist of ten airplanes,
of which nine are in formation and
a soloist. Their flight schedule
includes about twenty stunts and
lasts about half one hour.


Carnival
Important Events
This is a typical italian festival
of old origins, a period of public
revelry at regular time each year,
typically during the week before
Lent in Roman Catholic Countries,
involving processions, music, dancing,
and the use of masquerade. The word
"carnival" comes from the Latin
"carnem levare" and means "eliminate
the meat", referred to the next period
of abstinence waiting for Easter where,
above all in the past, eaten meat was forbidden.


Carnival in Venice
In Venice Carnival is very important, it starts with the descent of an artist, fixed to a metal cable, from the tower of doge's palace. During the Carnival period the masks are the most important objects. The Arlecchino's mask is the most famous but there are very masks of Carnival, for example in Naples is very popular the Pulcinella's mask.


Sanremo Music Festival
The Italian song festival of Sanremo is the most popular italian contest and awards, held annualy in the town of Sanremo, and consisting of a competition among unreleased songs. The most popular songs are: Nel Blu dipinto di blu, Volare, Azzurro, L'Italiano, La Solitudine and Con te partirò.

Spaghetti Cacio and Pepe
Cacio e pepe is a characteristic dish of Lazio, a region in the centre of Italy.
The ingredients of the dish are very simple and include only black pepper, roman pecorino, cheese and pasta.

Spaghetti all'Amatriciana
Amatriciana is a sauce for pasta typical of the province of Rieti, in region of Lazio. From 6 March 2020 it's officially recognized as a Guaranteed Traditional Speciality of the European Union.

Pizza
Pizza is a salty gastronomic product that consists of a dough made from flour, water and yeast that is rolled out and typically seasoned with tomato, mozzarella and other ingredients and cooked in a wood oven. There are many types of pizza, but the most popular is "Pizza Margherita", pizza with tomato
sauce and mozzarella.
