My great-grandmother is a person I admire a lot, she was a brave and fighter woman. Her name was Guadalupe Funes, she was born on December 12, 1915. She grew up in a very strict family, she, her brothers and sisters could not go to events such as parties because her parents did not think it was correct because they were very religious . Her father hired a teacher to teach them to read and write at home. She said that they forced her to learn to write with her right hand, despite the fact that she was left-handed. She also helped with housework and worked in the fields. She married and after that had children, when my maternal grandmother was 3 years old, her husband passed away, she had to raise my grandmother and three more daughters alone.

She traveled to the city once a week to sell cheese and vegetables. At the end of the 70s out of fear, she left her house and her lands in the countryside to go to live in the town, since she lived alone with my grandmother and the war movements began. Due to poverty, she had to work hard to receive food packages.

As time went by, my grandmother got married and decided to stay with her as she was her youngest daughter and she wanted to help him raise her grandchildren. When my uncle and my mother were little, my grandparents had to go to the United States because of poverty and war, she took care of them for 5 years until my grandparents returned with my two aunts who were born in the United States. Just as she took care of my mom and my uncle, she also took care of the other grandchildren of her other daughters.
She was always part of our family, my uncle, my aunts and my mother loved her very much. Over time she began to have health problems and to need medical attention. My grandparents, my uncle and my mother take care of her and help her. She always helped everyone who needed her help. I remember that she was a loving and lovable grandmother, but she sometimes got angry when my brothers and I fought or did not obey. She died when I was 7 years old, my brothers were 5 years and 1 year old, and my younger sister was only 8 days old.

My Grandmother

My grandmother's name was Manuela de Jesus, she was an exemplary woman for all who knew her, she was a woman full of love and had a beautiful heart, she liked to help people, although she was not my blood grandmother. I saw how my grandmother loved her very much, at the age of 13 she adopted my grandfather when he was a baby, since then she dedicated her life to taking care of others, all the members of my family remember her as a very happy person and optimistic, she had a lot of faith, she took care of my cousins and me when we were babies, and my mother and her sisters saw her as an aunt, that is why we referred to her as "Aunt Manuela"

And my mother and her sisters saw her as an aunt, that is why we referred to her as "Aunt Manuela" but in reality always we saw her as a grandmother, she dedicated herself completely to those who considered her family, it is for She never married and had children of her own, she was a very hard-working woman, and those who had the pleasure of knowing her loved her and admired her a lot, she was the one who took care of me when I was just a baby, a little curious anecdote is that when I was in kindergarten on one occasion she did my homework when she saw me tired and we hid it from my mother but she ended up realizing it anyway, I remember her as a loving, brave person , hard working, full of faith and a heart full of love to give away, although she is no longer with us we still remember her as the wonderful woman she was and we still remember all the happy moments with a smile and we treasure every memory with her, her name was Manuela and due to the war she did not remember her age and there were no papers to help us know when she was born, she died in April 2020.
