Adrian was super excited when he woke, today he was going on holiday, to Yorkshire for the whole of the summer holidays, they were going to stay with his favourite uncle, his mum Rebecca and little brother Julius were coming too. Adrian hoped he did not have to share a bedroom with Julius, three-year-olds can be super annoying when you are nine.

In the morning Adrian’s chore is to feed the cats, he was the first up and did not want to wake anyone so he could watch YouTube before they have to leave. He slowly crept across the kitchen, trying to be quiet, eyes staring at him as he took out the cat food. Kira started meowing so loudly that Brutus and Harley came crashing into the kitchen racing to be first to the bowls. Adrian quickly tore open the pouch, so quickly he accidentally dripped gravy on the floor. Its so noisy in the kitchen, like a cat orchestra. Adrian puts the bowls on the floor, and it is silent.

“You are so noisy you’re going to wake mum!” Brutus looked up at Adrian and quietly stretched. Adrian sat on the sofa, turned on the tv, and put on his favourite YouTuber. “And today guys! We will be exploring the world of Minecraft, and how to fight the Ender dragon!”

“Good morning!” Mum shouted from the kitchen,” Would you like a bacon sandwich for breakfast?”

“Mum, its bacon. of course, I want it!”

“Excuse me?” said mum standing in the doorway looking at him, the smell of bacon was making him hungry, bacon sandwiches are one of his favourite breakfasts. “I’m waiting.”

“Oh, uhm……I mean, yes please mum I would like a bacon sandwich.”

“That’s better.” Said mum as she filled a pan with bacon.

Adrian and his mum sat together at the table eating delicious bacon sandwiches. “What a horrible day, I hope it's sunny in Yorkshire ” Said mum, although it was the start of the summer holidays it was a rainy cold grim windy day, outside the rain was tapping on the window. Adrian stared at the window watching two raindrops chase each other to the bottom, he jumped as the wind outside slammed the gate shut.

“Me too, Uncle Tom said he’s going to take me to explore some caves but it’s a long walk, we won’t be able to go if it’s raining “said Adrian.

“you can still, go on walks if its raining, go grab your wellies” Adrian goes to find his wellies and puts them on.

“can I go out on my scooter?” Adrian asks already half out the door.

“ten minutes, make sure you put a coat on.”

Adrian laughed as he zoomed through the puddles, splashing muddy water all over himself, his wheels squelching a pile of leaves that had piled themselves in front of the house, mum called him over to get into the car, she took his scooter and put it in the boot, he felt sad he was having so much fun on his splashing through puddles on his scooter ,he was excited to see what adventures he would have at uncle Toms.

The car journey to uncle tom's house was so long, and boring. Adrian fell asleep, he woke almost jumping out of his seat as tom shouted "boo!" , he wiped his sleepy eyes and climbed out of the car , he was sleepy but very happy to see his favourite uncle standing with a huge smile , he loved uncle tom he always made the summer exciting !

mum and uncle Tom spent the whole afternoon talking, and laughing , sharing memories and telling each other jokes, Adrian doesn't think these are very good jokes , they talk all the way to bedtime , while Adrian and Julius build amazing Lego structures.

"come on, you two" mum says "Bed and straight to sleep.

The next day the sun was shining through the windows, as Adrian sleepily trudged down the stairs to breakfast.

"good morning" mum and uncle tom say together.

"how are you dude ?" asked uncle tom as he grabbed Adrian into a bear hug.

"Hungry" Adrian said sitting at the table and biting into a piece of toast.

Uncle Tom placed a lunch box in front of Adrian.

"I've made you a picnic lunch"

"that's not very big for a picnic" said mum

"Its just for Adrian, i think he's old enough to go explore on his own now."

"can i go down to the caves" Adrian asked hopefully 

"Yeah, sure" uncle tom said giving a set of safety rules.

walking the long, narrow stony path , Adrian was so excited he had been to the caves before, but he had never been on his own, he raced to the caves, his feet so fast clouds of dust left the ground and twigs snapped under his feet.

He explored the cave , he could see something strange a tunnel, almost hidden he crawled through the small tunnel nervous and excited.

The tunnel led him outside , but a different outside, this place was hidden it looked like someone had been here.  He could hear a rustling in the bushes.

"who's there?"

"Ug"

"What's an ug?"

"Ug!" he heard again 

"Hello Ug, I'm Adrian"

"Ug,ug!!" it answered excited.
