    Billy is a young boy living in South Korea. He 

is 6 years old. He has a happy family and a lot 

of friends. He enjoys many activities like 

drawing and soccer. As a kid that wants to 

make his parents proud, Billy is a good student 

that makes good grades.

   However! All is not well with Billy. He recently 

found out that his family is not complete. There 

are members of Billy's family in other places. 

Billy is left feeling empty knowing that his 

family is not complete.

   However, things are not that simple. Billy's 

relatives live in a place where he cannot see or 

visit them. He does not understand why he 

cannot visit the family he never knew he had. 

This leaves him sad and confused on why the 

world is separating a family.  

   Billy wonders about what caused South and 

North Korea to separate into two nations. He 

also wonders why the two nations must isolate 

themselves from each other. Billy does not 

understand the politics to his problem so it 

leaves him confused and sad. Even though he 

is confused, Billy decides to think up of 

answers to his problem anyways.

   Billy decides to talk to his grandfather to 

learn more about the complicated history 

behind the separation of the two nations. His 

grandfather told him that both South and 

North Korea were once one big nation. 

However, because of differences a war broke 

out. The result of the Korean war was the birth 

of North and South Korea. 

   Billy finally felt a sense of understanding. 

However, he also felt that it was not fair that 

he was separated from his family. Billy's 

grandfather agreed that he, too, missed the 

relatives living in North Korea. The two then 

decided to think of ways to get in contact with 

their long lost family.

   It was not an easy job thinking of ways to 

meet with their relatives. The border was 

always guarded by soldiers from both nations. 

The South Korean soldiers guarded the South 

Korean side, while the North Korean soldiers 

guarded the North Korean side. This 

discouraged both Billy and his grandfather.
