was born on July 8, 1949, she lived raising animals, making pasture for the waiters, washing in ravines, making tortillas, beans, her childhood and youth passing her in the canton ''Nombre de Dios'', Berlin, Usulután.

Saturnina Palma de Santos

She did not study, women were raised to be housewives, while her siblings were given the option of going to school or going to work in the countryside, many of their brothers preferred work in the countryside and few go to study, in the past there was a very sexist culture, she says that the whole village of Berlin was full of crops , walked through the hills harvesting crops for consumption at home and much practiced the exchange of food between neighbors

,She says that in the past during the war the guerrillas took over the village and lived an ordeal, when it was small and it was heard that the guerrillas were going to hide nearby they would hide at the crops or hide in the house in a few jugs of mud.

those of the red cross said that if the army did not advance they were going to bomb the whole village, her brother was taken by the army to the central base, caught her on her way to work, and her brothers and friends went to look for her and bring her home, when she was young she attended the village church every Sunday she would go to mass with her friends and sisters , first they had to leave all the tasks done at home and then leave and on their way back they had to arrive to make lunch and in the afternoon pull wood.

, they would throw some parties called San Antonio that had a religious character but in turn people could go dancing and have a good time, she was a woman, they did not give her permission to attend but she once escaped with her friends to be able to attend , but she did not stay at the whole party, but nevertheless she had a good time, later she married Manuel Francisco Santos Maravilla at the age of 16, the celebration was very intimate and familiar. She had nine children.

When the earthquake happened in 2001, she told me that making tortillas was going crazy at the time, everything was shaking no one knew what was going on but as a precaution, they left their homes and took refuge on the court that was in front of their house, after a while she arrived at their new home in the village of Berlin, where she finished raising her children and that is actually where she currently lives.

My grandma was born in July 1st 1960, in Honduras, so I asked my mom "Did she lived in Honduras for most of her young years" and my mom told me she did, because of the situation of El Salvador back then, so when my mom told me that, I got curious so I asked her "how long did grandma lived in Honduras for?" "Did she ever lived or visited El Salvador".

My grandma.

So my mom told me "Yes, she did, she lived in Honduras for eight years straight and at the age of nine she moved to El Salvador", she grew up with her 13 siblings, women and men, being the youngest, her father raised her doing jobs that where meant for men, he considered her his right hand both in work and in the family

Her father lived on livestock and from her six years he grew up working on it and doing activities that little by little turned her into a strong, determined and amazing woman although for her it was exhausting, she immigrated to El Salvador

where she lived her adolescence and years later she met her first partner with whom she started a family and spoke about how fascinating it was for her, although three years later she had her first daughter in the middle of a frustrating situation with her partner which was cheating on her, four months later her daughter died and her life with her partner became depressive because she was being mistreated

,however she had four children that she left after five years to seek a better life and away from her partner, first she lived in Maryland where she met her second couple with whom she married four years later and ended two years later due to mistreatment

,finally three years later she went to live in Los Angeles, California where she lived most of her adult life.she also met her two brothers at birthday parties.

,many years later her youngest son died which caused her life to turn gray, living depressed and exhausted, but living day by day for her two children and grandchildren.

My beloved great-grandmother was born on April 5th, 1911, which means she was an Aries (According to astrology),
Back when she was still alive, she would tell me her stories about being a youngster growing up in Izalco, El Salvador.
I remember vividly these stories about her father (my great-great-grandpa) she used to talk about him like there was no tomorrow, I don’t think she has ever loved someone as much as she loved her Father whose name was Abraham.
