NAZIM HİKMET RAN


Nazım Hikmet was born on 20th November 1901 in
Saloniki, Grece .His grandfather was a poet and his
mother was an artist so he was exposed to poetry early on in his life. He published his first poems at the age of seventeen.After World War One, he went to Moscow and attended the university. There, he had the chance to meet writers and artist from all around the world. Then, in 1924, he returned to Turkey but he was soon arrested for working on a leftist newspaper. Again, he went to Russia.He was allowed back to Turkey in 1928 and during the next decade, he published nine poetry books while he worked as a translator,journalist,and proofreader. After serving a long sentence, he left Turkey for the last time in 1951. He lived in Russia and traveled through Eastern Europe. Nazım Hikmet died in Moscow in 1963.
ÖZDEMİR ASAF


Born in Ankara on June 11, 1923 the poet first studied at
Galatasaray High School and then at Kabataş High School.
He graduated from high school in 1942 and left the Faculty of Law, Faculty of Economics and Faculty of Journalism respectively.
Özdemir Asaf, who worked in various newspapers and made translations throughout his University life, published his first article in the magazine Servet-i Fünun,Uyanış, and thus he entered the publishing life. Later he founded Sanat Basımevi and started publishing his books under the name of Round Table Publications.
Özdemir Asaf passed away in 1981 at the age of 58.

YAHYA KEMAL BEYATLI

Yahya Kemal Beyatlı was born in 1884 in Skopje,
he died in 1958 in Istanbul. His real name was Ahmed Agah. He completed his primary education in Skopje. He graduated from Istanbul Vefa High School. He went to Paris in 1903.
He had the opportunity to learn French literature.He went to Eastern languages school. He returned to Istanbul in 1913. He retired in 1949 when he was at the Pakistani Embassy and returned to the country. He went to Paris for treatment. A year later, he died in 1958.


CEMAL SÜREYA
The real name of Cemal Süreyya is Cemalettin
Seber. He was born in 1931 in Erzincan. He graduated from
the Faculty of Political Sciences in 1954. He worked as assistant inspector and inpector in the Ministry of Finance. He resigned in 1965, but returned to the same job in 1972.His first poem was published in Ankara on 8 January 1953 in "Mülkiye Magazine". With his poems, he has brought innovation to the "Second New Poetry".He wrote poetry books Üvercinka (1958), Göçebe (1965),Beni Öp Sonra Doğur Beni (1979), Güz Bitiği (1988), Sıcak Nal (1988). •He won the Yeditepe Poetry Award with "Üvercinka", the Turkish Language Association Poetry Award with " Göçebe " and the Behçet Necatigil Poetry Award, with his latest two books.He died on January 9, 1990.


ORHAN VELİ KANIK
Orhan Veli Kanık was born on April 13, 1914 in Istanbul.
He started his education life in Istanbul, then went to Ankara
with his mother. While he was a primary school student, he became interested in literature. His first story was published in a magazine called "Çocuk Dünyası" .After graduating from high school, he enrolled in Istanbul UniversitY Department of Philosophy. But he had to quit his education. His first poem was published in Varlık magazine in 1936. Later,his poems were published in the journals "Ses", "Gençlik ve İnkılapçı". He founded Garip Stream with Oktay Rıfat and Melih Cevdet Anday. He was among the founders of a magazine called "Yaprak" in 1947.
Orhan Veli Kanık died in Istanbul on 14 November, 1950.


BEHÇET NECATİGİL
Behçet Necatigil, whose full name is "Mehmet Behçet Gönül"
,was born on April 16, 1916 in Istanbul.He lost his mother at a
young age. He started his education life at Cevri Master School. He continued his education here after his family moved to Kastamonu.
He continued his high school education at Kabataş High School after his family moved back to Istanbul. Necatigil, who completed his higher education in the Turkish Language and Literature Department of the Higher Teacher's School , started teaching. His first poem titled "Night and Mourning"was published in Varlık magazine in 1935.In 1956, he won the Yeditepe Poetry Award with his work "The Old Land".
Behçet Necatigil passed away on 13 Decemberr 1979. He did not participate in any literary movement and produced many works in different genres.


CAHİT SITKI TARANCI
He was born on 4th of October 1910 in Diyarbakır.
His family was one of the biggest merchant family in
Diyarbakır. His mother's name is Arife Hanım,his father's name is
Sıtkı Bey and his parents named him Hüseyin Cahit.
He went to primary school in Diyarbakır. Then, because of the family traditions he went to Kadıköy French Saint Joseph High School. In 1931 he passed to Galatasaray High School and he started to write poems at these years.His first poems published in Akademi and Servet-i Fünün magazines. He went to Paris for his college but he came back to Turkey because of the World War Two.In 1953 he paralyzed by a crisis and after one year he paralyzed by another illness.
On 13th of October 1956 he passed away.
