Deniz çok şaşkındı. Bugün okullarına TEMA Vakfı’ndan görevliler geldi. Onlara organik atıklardan bahsettiler. Meğer çöpe attıkları meyve, sebze, yemek atıklarının da geri dönüşümü oluyormuş.

Kompost, bahçe ve bitki atıklarından, mutfak atıklarından, sebze meyve atıkları gibi her türlü organik atığın bir araya getirilip karıştırılarak çürümesini sağlayıp kısa süre sonra toprağın minerallerini güçlendirmek için kullanılan ve doğaya yeniden kazandırılabilecek organik bir gübreymiş. 

Eve gidince annesine de anlatıp kompost yapmak için sabırsızlanıyordu.

Deniz ve ailesi fırsat buldukça köye, akrabalarını görmeye giderdi. Deniz bu ziyaretlere bayılırdı. Saatlerce dışarıda oynar, yeşilliklerde dolaşır, köyde yediği her şeye bayılırdı. Bir gün yemekten sonra bulaşıklara yardım etmek için ananesinin yanına gitti. Ama o da neydi? Ananesi bütün meyve ve sebze artıklarını ayrı bir kapta biriktiriyordu. Neler yoktu ki o kapta? Meyve kabukları, çürümüş sebzeler, tabaklarda kalmış yemek artıkları...

Normalde Deniz ve ailesi onları direkt çöpe gönderirdi. Deniz çok şaşırdı ve sonra ananesine neden bunları biriktirdiğini sordu. Ananesi anlayışla başını okşadı ve anlatmaya başladı. Meğer sebze ve meyve atıkları çöp değilmiş, onları biriktirip çürümelerini sağlayıp toprağa tekrardan karıştırırlarmış ki böylece içlerindeki mineraller toprağı beslermiş. Ananesi isterse Deniz'in de evdeki organik artıkları biriktirip toprağa karıştırabileceğini söyledi. Deniz hem şaşkın hem de mutluydu, evdeki yeni görevi belli olmuştu...

Denizde kahvaltıda meyve suyu içmeyi severdi. İnternette bulduğu bilgiler dikkatini çekti ve hemen uygulamaya başladı ve evdeki çiçekler daha güzel olsun diye çürüyen meyvelerden gübre yapmaya başladı.

He played outside for hours, wandered in the greenery, loved everything he ate in the village. One day, after dinner, he went to his grandmother to help with the dishes. But what was that? Her grandmother kept all her fruit and vegetable scraps in a separate container. What wasn't in that bowl? Fruit peels, rotten vegetables, leftovers on plates... 

Normally, Deniz and her family would send them straight to the trash. Deniz was very surprised and then asked her grandmother why she was collecting them. Her grandmother patted her head in understanding and began to explain. It turned out that vegetable and fruit wastes were not garbage, they accumulated them, allowed them to rot and mixed them with the soil again, so that the minerals in them fed the soil. Her grandmother said that if she wanted to, Deniz could collect the organic wastes in the house and mix them into the soil. Deniz was both surprised and happy, his new duty at home was clear...

He liked to drink fruit juice at breakfast in the sea. The information he found on the Internet drew his attention and began to apply immediately and began to make fertilizer from rotting fruits so that the flowers in the house would grow more beautiful.
