The Adventures of Buck-Nose and Red Tail
Once upon a time, there was a beautiful forest in a magical land. In
this forest lived Buck-Nose and Red Tail, two deer who had been
friends forever. They lived in the Cotton Fur Herd. Last spring, a fire
had killed their families, and they had stuck together trying learn the
ways of the forest.

One day, Buck-Nose was walking through the forest and he noticed
something seemed different. He saw Sammy Squirrel scurrying around
collecting more acorns than he could carry. He saw Suzy Sparrow
flying from tree to tree in search of pods.

I wonder whatthey are all up to.

That night, Buck-Nose and Red Tail were walking through the forest
when they saw Bobby Bear.

"You two better get ready, or you'll be a
lot of in trouble!"

"Wow Bobby! Gaining a little bit of weight, huh?.
Better lay off that honey!"
Red Tail laughed as Bobby Bear grumbled and padded away.

I don't think you should be laughing Red Tail. Today I saw Sammy Squirrel collecting more seeds than he could carry. Also, I saw
Suzy Sparrow flying around in a frenzy looking for pods. I think
something is going on. All the animals in the forest seem to be
preparing for something. Maybe we should take note of our
observations and try to figure out what is going on in the forest."

"Oh, your being silly Buck-Nose. Nothing
is happening. The
forest is warm and
looks beautiful. Its
been that way for
months!"

Well, I'm going to start taking notes
on everything I see.
Maybe I can figure
out why all the animals
are acting strange.

The next day, Buck-Nose and Red Tail decided to take a walk to
North Forest. When they got there, they found something they
didn't expect. All the leaves had turned different shades of red,
yellow, and orange. Buck-Nose took note of it in his Observation
Notebook.

While walking through North Forest, Buck-Nose and Red Tail came
upon Bradley Beaver's lodge.
"Wow, look how big his lodge is!" Red Tail said.
" Did you notice how much food he has gathered? Look, it's even
sticking out of the water!" Buck-Nose added. "That has to be
enough food to last him months! I think I should add this to my
Observation Notebook."
"Does it seem colder up here in North Forest?" Red Tail asked.
At the same moment Buck-Nose and Red Tail heard a commotion in
the sky above them. They looked up and saw a flock of ducks flying
in a V-formation heading South.

seems kind of chilly...
maybe I should take note of this
Buck-Nose and Red Tail decided it was time to head home. The
Sun was getting lower in the sky, and it was starting to get
chilly in North Forest. They started their journey home.
Red Tail, I didn't see a singlelizard or snake in North Forest.
Where do you think they all
went?
