Once upon a time, living deep within in Trina's mighty seas, was a young merman named Adrian. Adrian wasn't like all the other mermaids and mermen in sea school. Adrian was royalty and heir to his mother's throne.

For hundreds of years the heir to the throne was always the eldest child. However, the last five generations, the eldest children were all mermaids. Adrian was frightened to be the first merman to take the throne in over 200 years. He doubted his ability to be as good of a ruler as his mother.

Adrian's mother Trina was the strongest of all the mermaids and mermen. She was confident and ruled with respect and dignity. Everyone in the sea looked up to Queen Trina.
Adrian could only dream of being half as good of a leader as his mother. He felt an immense amount of pressure, as these were some big fins to fill. Adrian started to ponder, thinking about what it is that has made his mother, and all the queens before, such good rulers. "A-ha!" exclaimed Adrian, he's figured it out. "It's because they're mermaids" he said to himself. "In order to be a powerful leader, I must be a mermaid", and off he swam to make this a reality.

Adrian believed that the only way he could become as strong of a leader as his mother was by transforming from a merman to a mermaid. So he went to the sea witch Mildred to have her transform him into a mermaid; And she did just that, but the potion will wear off in one month. Adrian only had one month to discover what it is that makes females such strong leaders.

After transforming into a mermaid, Adrian spent weeks, carefully observing how strong Queen Trina is. Adrian started replicating all the great leadership characteristics that Queen Trina presented. Trina noticed a change in initiative, and leadership skills since Adrian's transformation. Of course Trina was supportive of Adrian's decision, but she told Adrian, that leadership has nothing to do with gender, and everything to do with who you are as a person. Adrian realized that being male, or female isn't what makes a great ruler: respect, integrity, and confidence does.

Adrian's month had sadly come to an end and as he transformed back into a merman, he looked back at his experience and realized that being a female was empowering. He sees why women are so strong and confident. While Adrian was sad he could no longer be a mermaid, he was happy to begin to incorporate what he had learned in his time as a mermaid into his role as king. Realizing that gender has nothing to do with being a great leader, he hopes that he can inspire young mermen to be confident just like the mermaids in their life. Now that Adrian has the confidence to lead with respect, strength and dignity the same way his mother and grandmothers always have, he is excited to take on his role as king.
