John the Baptist Prepares The Way
The story starts out with the explanation of the good news of Jesus the Messiah.

“I will send my messenger ahead of you,
who will prepare your way”
“a voice of one calling in the wilderness,
‘Prepare the way for the Lord,
make straight paths for him.’”
The good news, as written in Isaiah the prophet, says:
This story starts with John the Baptist preaching the good news, so that is why it is important to know what exactly the good news is.

John the Baptist goes to the wilderness, and begins to preach and inform people what baptism is.
Your sins will be forgiven!
He explains that when you are Baptized, your sins will be forgiven. The people are appalled and amazed that such a thing is possible.

WOW!
I can't believe this is possible! Tell me more!
All of Judea and Jerusalem came to see him.

We have to see John the Baptist to have our sins forgiven!
All of the people of Judea were very excited to confess their sins and be baptized by him in the Jordan River.

John the Baptist was a funny looking man, wearing interesting clothes, and his choice of food was rather odd.
Mark 1 verse 6 says "John wore clothing made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey."
This was his message: “After me comes the one more powerful than I, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
"I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
This signifies the fact that even though John is baptizing them, Jesus is the son of God, and that he is more powerful than John.
After John told the mass of people that, Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee to be baptized by John in the Jordan.
Then, as Jesus was coming up from being baptized by John in the Jordan, he watched as Heaven was torn apart and the Spirit coming down on him like a dove.
And, all of a sudden, a voice from the Heavens appeared and said: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”
