What did houses look like in the early 1900s?
Many homes featured built-in storage, with solid wood or glassed-in doors, including bookshelves, linen cupboards and kitchen cabinets. Windows were often large and squarish, providing plenty of natural light. Another common feature of early 1900s homes was a large, roofed porch across the full front of the house.

In the interwar period - around 1920. until 1930 - Many architectural styles emerged, some of which had many elements of common design. In order to adapt to technological advances such as central heating and domestic water supply, new beauty ideals have been captured in building projects, which together have created an efficient form and function. The daily news from distant lands that began during the war somewhat belittled the world and aroused gratitude for the architecture of foreign cultures.

While the first half of the 1960s was still heavily influenced by the design of the 1930s, the second half laid the foundation for modern design in the mid-1960s, which has been so popular recently. But let’s look at what happened in terms of design in the 1940s.

Linoleum Floors - while wall-to-wall carpeting slowly replaced hardwood floors in living rooms and bedrooms, linoleum flooring quickly became the favorite in the 1940s kitchens. The material was strong and long-lasting, and after the war there was plenty of it to go around. Bold geometric patterns were the most popular option, adding even more color to the kitchen.
