A little girl named Brooke has
always wanted a pet cat. She
had begged her father for one
for years but she never got
one.

The next day at outside of school Brooke's
best friend Amy came running into the
classroom so excited. Brooke asked, "Why
are you so happy today?"
Amy replied, "I got a kitten yesterday! My
mom and dad surprised me!"
Brooke, pretending to be happy for her
friend, said, "Wow! Lucky you!"
Brooke thought as soon as she got home
from school today she was going to beg her
dad one last time for a pet cat.

Brooke came running into the kitchen and started
shouting, "DADDY I WANT A CAT RIGHT NOW, AMY GOT
ONE, I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY I CAN'T HAVE ONE.
I PROMISE TO TAKE CARE OF IT AND FEED IT
EVERYDAY!!!!"
Brooke's father said, "Calm down Brooke, you will get a
cat when I think you're ready for one and I don't think
that time is right now."
Brooke was not satisfied with that answer and stormed
off into her room.

The following day was Valentine's Day which was
one of Brooke's favorite holidays. Even though it
was one of her favorites, she found that she had a
hard time being happy because she wanted a cat
so badly and her father thought she wasn't ready
for one.
However, once she got to school she could not
help but be happy once she began to receive
valentines from all her classmates.

Happy Valentine's Day!
In a surprisingly good mood Brooke walks home from school.
She opens her front door and walks into her living room.
Sitting there on the floor right infront of her is a cat! He was
black and white and had big green eyes. Brooke was so
shocked and happy she was not sure if she should hug the cat
or her dad first!
Her father comes in and Brooke yells, "Thank you so much
Dad!! This is the best surprise ever!"
Her dad said, "Well, I thought this would be a good Valentine's
Day gift, that's why I did not want to tell you, I wanted it to be
a surprise! So, what are you going to name him?"
Brooke thought about it then said, "Hmmm, I'll call him
Mervin!"
"Sounds like a good name to me!"
