This is a story about a great adventure that takes place in the wonderful underwater world of the Tagus River. Stanley and many fantastic characters will appear!
How will the adventure end?
Once upon a time, there was a beautiful plastic bag called Stanley, lost in the sand at Paço de Arcos beach. He was swept away by a wave and went into the sea. Trapped by the sea currents it was quickly carried to the mouth of the Tagus River.
As the tide came in, little Stanley was climbing up the river bed, when suddenly a heron caught him.
The heron thought that Stanley was a wonderful prawn and tried to eat him!
Suddenly the heron felt choked, she couldn't breathe. What kind of shrimp was that anyway?
Stanley was frightened, he felt the heron's beak stinging him and the bird's distress worried him.
The heron flies in distress towards the great Tagus Estuary and in its immense reeds manages to free itself from Stanley.
Stanley, caught on a pole, with the wind whipping him like a coloured flag. The wind became very strong and released Stanley, who flew towards a boat which was fishing for sea bass on the river.
Meanwhile Stanley felt himself sinking and realized that he was in the middle of the seaweed, where many fish were swimming peacefully. A shoal of fish was passing by and carrying Stanley, who felt himself slipping slowly away.
The river bed is beautiful, full of life and Stanley feels very happy, calm and relaxed.
Suddenly Stanley felt himself whirling in the strong currents of the River Tagus, which were pushing him up the steps of quay 14 in Alhandra.
At this moment, class A4, who had gone to visit the nearby museum, spotted the bag. Knowing the dangers that the bag could bring to the animals in the river they asked a fisherman for help who promptly caught the Stanley with his fishing rod.
Class A4, picked up Stanley, brought him to school and gave him an important task: to make the whole community aware of the importance of protecting the environment.
Stanley is now a fantastic flag!
Once upon a time, a teenager named Diogo went to Vila Franca de Xira to the " Words´Factory" to return the books he had ordered the week before.
It was a very pleasant place, near the Tagus river, so he brought a bag with a snack to have a picnic.
He was eating bread with cheese and drinking orange juice when suddenly the wind comes and the bag flew into the river.
Some days passed, and the seagull started to feel sick, in the Tagus estuary, when she was with her friends.

As Stanley opened his eyes, he looked around him with surprise. 'Where am I?' he wondered. The last thing he remembered was his adventures with the sea creatures.

Stanley kept floating on the water and some fish came close to him. But they were not the only ones who were curious about him. Soon more creatures started to show up.

Εσύ ποιος είσαι;
'Χάρηκα για τη γνωριμία, Stanley. Είμαι η Xουλιαρόπαπια.
'Γεια, είμαι ο Stanley',
'Κι εγώ χάρηκα για τη γνωριμία΄'
-Θέλεις να καλέσω έναν φίλο μου να σου τον συστήσω;

'Hello!,I'm the Flamingo. Who are you?',
'Nice to meet you, Stanley. I'm the Northern Shoveler.
-Hi, I'm Stanley.
-Yes, I'd love to.
Nice to meet you, too'.
Would you like me to introduce you to a friend of mine?

Γεια σου, Φλαμίγκο. Πού χάθηκες;
Και πώς είναι το όνομά του;

Το όνομά του είναι Stanley.

Hi Pied Avocet, I'd like to introduce you to somebody. He looks a bit like a jellyfish.
Hi, flamingo. Long time, no see.
And what's his name?

His name is Stanley.

Ναι,Stanley, είσαι καλά;
Stanley, πώς νιώθεις, είσαι καλά;

I feel a bit weird. I'm tired and confused
Yeah, Stanley, are you ok?
Stanley, are you alright?

Ouch, you're hurting me, ouch!
Go away, quickly or I'll eat you!
Go away, fish, go away!

The fish in the lake surrounded Stanley and started biting him. But his new friends rushed to help him.

Thanks, guys. You have no idea what I went through a few days ago.
Bye, I'm on my way.
Poor Stanley. You aren't in danger here. We are your friends.

Γεια σου είμαι ο Stanley. Μπορείτε να μου πείτε που βρίσκομαι;
Γεια σας, είμαι η χουλιαρομύτα. Ποιος είναι ο καινούριος μας φίλος;

Hi, I'm Stanley. Can you tell me where I am?
Hello, I'm the Spoonbill. Who is our new friend?
This is Vistonida lake. A very important wetland!

Soon another friendly bird showed up and was curious about Stanley.

Ποιόν Stanley; Αυτή την καραβίδα;
Αργυροτσικνιά, τι πας να κάνεις;
'Ασε τον Stanley!

Stanley who; This crayfish;
It's not a crayfish, it's our friend Stanley.
Great Egret, what are you doing? Leave Stanley alone!

An impressive white bird suddenly grabbed Stanley with its bill.

It's ok, Great Egret, let's be friends.
I'm sorry, Stanley I took you for a crayfish.

Ποιος είναι αυτός ο φίλος;

I can see another friend coming.
Who is this friend?
Another bird was getting closer....

Γεια σας, Τι κάνετε εδώ;

Hello, what are you doing here?
We are chatting with our new friend, Stanley.
Hi, Stanley, I'm the White-headed duck and your friend, too.

We are happy, too, Stanley. You will like it here in Vistonida. It is very beautiful.
I'm so happy for all the new friends I've made here!

Να'μαι κι εγώ!

Here I am!
Welcome, Glossy Ibis!

Hi, friend, I'm Stanley!
I'm going to show you around the lake! I know it like the back of my wings!

Έι, Θαλασσαετέ, τι κάνεις εκεί;

Aww, thank so mu..
HELP!!!
Hey, White-tailed Eagle, what are you doing;

Suddenly something terrible happened. A large bird dived from the sky and swooped Stanley.

Yet it was too late. In a flurry of wings, the eagle took off high into the sky, leaving the other birds terrified.

Poor Stanley was terrified, too. He had no idea what was in store for him when the eagle carried him to a totally different part of the lake.

On the sandy shore of the lake, the Eagle dropped Stanley off. With his beak, he tried nibbling on him, but the taste didn't appeal to him. He thought, "What a bland fish." .'It was so much trouble for nothing.'

Κοίτα, μια σακούλα δίπλα στον αετό. Πώς βρέθηκε εδώ άραγε; Τι λες;
Τι να κάνουμε;

Two kids came out of the reeds and watched curiously.

Look, there's a plastic bag next to an eagle.
Where did it come from? What can we do? What do you think?
Quickly, let's get the plastic bag so the bird
doesn't get harmed. It can be recycled, right?rised. 'W

με τη σακούλα;
Τέλεια! Έχεις κάτι στο μυαλό σου;

Hmm, I've got a better idea.
How about making something with the bag?
Cool! Have you got anything on your mind;

We can make a ball to play with.
In this way, not only will the lake be safe but
also, the creatures living there as well.
Great idea!Let's do it now!

Excited by their idea, the kids approached carefully. When the eagle flew off, Stanley was left behind with no idea what to expect.

The kids created a ball out of the plastic bag from scraps of paper and fabric and started playing with it. They also placed environmental signs at different spots around the lake.

It wasn't just the kids who were happy with the outcome.
Stanley was happy, both because of the end of his journey after all his
mishaps and because he was able to be useful in the end.

It's time we all take a stand,
To protect these water sources, our precious land.
Reduce waste, recycle, and conserve,
For a future with clean water, let us preserve.

A lake with a wetland, so serene and still,
A place where the water and land seem to fill,
A calmness that's felt, with a cool summer breeze,
A home to so many plants, birds and bees.
This lake with a wetland, a place so unique,
A symphony of life, a natural retreat,
A haven to creatures, in a world so fast,
A treasure to cherish, that's meant to last.

Stanley's Journey
in
Sapanca Lake
by the students in the 5th grade of
Edebali Secondary School

Stanley piknik çantasından çıkarıldı,
Sonra bir şey oldu.
Şiddetli bir rüzgar esti. Stanley , Sapanca Gölü üstünde yükseldi , yükseldi.

Stanley was taken out from the picnic basket.
Then something happened.
A strong wind flew and Stanley rose up high and high over to Lake Sapanca.

O gökyüzünde süzülürken hareket edemediğini fark etti.
Biri onu sıkıca tutmuştu.
Stanley kanat çırpmaları duydu, ve beyaz tüyler gördü.

While he was floating in the sky, he realized he couldn’t move.
Somebody held him tightly.
Stanley heard wing flapping and he saw white fur.
Ama bu ne olabilirdi?
Ve bir pelikan Stanley’i yuvasına taşımıştı.

But who could it be?
And A pelican carried Stanley to her nest.

Daha fazla kuş ötüşü…
Bunlar iki tane aç kuş yavrusu idi.
Stanley’i gördüklerinde onun büyük bir balık olduğunu düşünmüşlerdi.Ve onu yemek için çekiştirdiler.

More and more bird croaking…
These were two hungry nestlings.
When they saw Stanley, they thought Stanley was a big fish. They tagged him to eat.

Sonra bir şey oldu.
Stanley tekrar havalandı ve kendini Sapanca Gölü’nün sularında buldu.

Then something happened.
Stanley took off again and found himself in
Lake Sapanca again.

Stanley yavaşça dibe battı.
Bir karabatak Stanley’i bir hamlede daldı ve Stanley’i yutmaya çalıştı.
Çünkü onun bir balık olduğunu düşündü.

Stanley sunk to the bottom slowly.
Something terrible happened.
A cormarant dived and tried to swallow Stanley. Because it thought Stanley was a fish.

Sonra kendini Stanley’in içinde buldu.
Kaçmaya çalıştı, korkmuştu.
Zavallı karabatak kanatlarını çırptı.

Then it found itself in Stanley. It struggled to escape. It frightened.
The poor cormarant flapped its wings.
Stanley tried to take it out, too.

Stanley’de onu çıkarmaya çalıştı.
En sonunda dışarı çıkmayı başardı.
Stanley sahile doğru bir akıntıya kapıldı.

Finally it managed to get out.
Stanley caught the stream toward to the shore.
Sonra bir şey oldu.
Akıntı bitmesine rağmen Stanley hala gidiyordu.

Then something happened.
Although the flew was over,Stanley still kept going.

Parlak bir şey onu sahile doğru götürdü.
Her tarafı pulluydu ve büyük gözleri vardı.

A sparkling creature took him to the shore .
It was all scaly and had big eyes

Bu bir kefaldi.
O yüzgeçlerini kurtarmak için çırpındı.
Sonra bir şey oldu.

It was a mullet.
It waved to save its fins.
Then something happened.
Stanley’in takıldığı kefali bir balıkçı çeker ve balıkçı şöyle der:
“Sen Sapanca Gölüne ait değilsin. Gölü kirleten geleceği kirletmiş olur.”

SULARI TEMİZ TUTUNUZ!
A fisherman caught the mullet and let the Stanley free.
And he says to plastic bag “You don't belong to Lake Sapanca. If we pollute our water ,we will pollute our future.”

KEEP CLEAN OUR WATER!
ater is our past
nd our future.
ogether we can stop
nding our lives
ight decision is not wasting it!
