History of Lexus
Lexus is a luxury vehicle division of the Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corporation. The brand was first introduced in 1989 in the United States, Canada, and Australia, and later expanded to other markets.
The development of the Lexus brand began in the 1980s, when Toyota decided to create a new luxury division to compete with established luxury brands such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Cadillac. The project was code-named "F1," which stood for "Flagship One."
Toyota invested over $1 billion in the development of the Lexus brand, including the construction of new factories and facilities specifically for the production of Lexus vehicles.
The first Lexus model, the LS 400, was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in 1989. The LS 400 was a full-size luxury sedan with a 4.0-liter V8 engine, and it was praised for its build quality, reliability, and smooth ride.
The Lexus brand quickly gained a reputation for high quality, reliability, and exceptional customer service, and it became a major player in the luxury car market. In addition to the LS 400, Lexus introduced several other models over the years, including the ES, GS, RX, and LX.
In the 1990s and early 2000s, Lexus continued to expand its product lineup and global reach. In 2005, the brand introduced the world's first luxury hybrid vehicle, the RX.
