ME

I look in the mirror and what do I see?

A beautiful, intelligent, brown person looking back at me

I'm good at making others smile

and love to  see the enjoyment on people's faces

I spend lots of time working on me

And can't wait for the outcome

I could improve on my values

and doing so is hard for me but I know if I try, Ill be the best I can be.

 I am human just like you.

I wonder if others think that is true.

I hear my people not being heard.

I see what they see which is them being overheard.

I want justice for you and me.

I am a human who wants peace.

I pretend that we were treated fair but,

I feel like they just never cared.

I touch my curly hair wondering why it always flares. 

I worry that people may think about what I wear.

I cry for those who get killed out in the world.

I hope we can protect our brown boys and girls.
