In 480 B.C Leonidas,the King of Sparta,together with 300 Spartans and 700 Thespians fought against 100k Persians,who wanted to take over Greece. They were all killed in the battle.A monument is standing today at Thermopylae, where they were killed, in memory of their brave sacrifice.

During the 4th century BC Lamia was a flourishing  city.There was a fortress ,a market and the citys can for tranding .There was even a gym

The most important event in our area was the Lamian War in 323 B.C. After the deathof Alexander Great  the Macedonians wanted to rule over the other Greek cities .Tere was a battle around the other Greek states.

During the Byzantine era the name changed to (Zitouni) in 869.
