Whales or Dolphins?
Orcas, also known as killer whales are not actually whales. They are actually the largest member of the dolphin family. There are many similarities between orcas and dolphins, but at the same time, there are equally many differences.

While orcas are dolphins, not all dolphins are orcas. Orcas hunt a variety of animals, unlike dolphins. There are also differences between orcas and dolphins such as weight, size, speed, and many more. There are also many other differences between orcas and whales. Orcas have teeth, while whales have baleen. Some whales like sperm whales and beluga whales have teeth, but not all of them.

Playful and Intelligent
Orcas are really playful. There are also many ways they are playful, such as leaping out of the water. They can also spy-hop, which is to put their head out of the water. That’s not it though, because they also slam their tails on the water and splash people. They also playfully interact with prey without killing it. They harass their prey before eating or killing them, it is a hunting behavior.

Orcas are also very intelligent as well. They use many unique hunting techniques, such as echolocation, which is to make noises. That noise will hit the prey, or surroundings to make a better picture of what’s ahead. This is used when the orca can’t see or navigate themselves in the water. Orcas are also really smart when hunting prey like seals. In the colder regions, when a seal is on ice, a pod,
or a group of orcas will knock
and hit the ice where the seal
is, and when the seal falls in
the water, the orcas will feed
on the seal.

Habitat
Orcas live in all oceans, which are the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, and Arctic oceans. They can be in shallow and deep waters.

Orcas prefer colder regions like the coasts of North America, Norway, and Antarctica. Orcas swim far distances in search of food.
