Old city gate
Some rulers left a clear mark on the architecture of the city. So above the main entrance to the old town, the Land Gate that passes through the Revelin tower from the 13th
century, proudly stands the winged lion of Saint Mark. Next to this symbol of the Republic of Venice, there is a stone plaque marking the 1000th anniversary of the coronation of Tomislav, the first Croatian king. If you are familiar with the name Revelin, it may be because the Revelin Fortress is located in Dubrovnik. HR
It is triangular in plan, with three three-story tall and massive round towers at the ends and flat walls over 30 meters long, which connect them. While the north-west and north-east towers are of the same diameter, the south one is significantly smaller. The towers are covered with a circular conical roof. The entrance to the interior of the fortress is not through a large door or a drawbridge at the level of the surrounding land, as is most often the case with buildings of a similar type, but is located higher, on the side of the northeast tower, and is reached by wooden steps and a bridge.
