                   Clara Barton

   The life of a Civil War nurse

Clara Barton was a nurse who in the 1900 s led the American Red Cross and helped the wounded during natural disasters.

When she was 11, her brother accidentally fell off the roof of a barn. That's when she discovered her true meaning in life, to help other people. She mostly had home-schooling, but she attended LiberalInstitute at Clinton, N.Y. 1850-1851.

She was never married, had no children, and she had a white dog named Button and a cat named Tommy. She lived at 5801 Oxford Road, Glen Echo, MD 20812. She worked as a teacher at Bordentown, New Jersey. In 1854 she was hired in Washington D.C. at the US Patent Office. In 1861, she dropped out to nurse the wounded soldiers in the Civil War.
