This story was inspired by my own personal experiences of being too afraid to ask for help, thinking I could just solve everything on my own, whether that was assignments, daily life stuff, and so on. Friends, I hope this story also inspires you to do the same in life: never be afraid to ask for help when you truly need it. It helps you learn and grow.

Maya loved learning new things.

She especially loved projects because she could draw, build, and use her imagination. One morning, her teacher, Ms. Rivera, announced a new classroom project.

"Your job is to create a model that shows how plants grow," Ms. Rivera explained.

Maya smiled. She couldn't wait to begin!

When Maya looked at the project instructions, however, her smile disappeared.

There was one part she didn't understand.

She read it once.

Then twice.

Then one more time.

"Maybe I'll understand it if I read it repeatedly," Maya thought.

But she still didn't understand

Maya glanced around the classroom.

Some of her classmates had already started working.

She didn't want to be the only person who needed help.

"What if Ms. Rivera thinks I wasn't paying attention?," Maya wondered.

So instead of asking, Maya decided to figure it out herself.

Maya tried to follow the instructions.

She drew a picture.

Then erased it.

She tried again.

Then she became even more confused.

Her pencil felt heavier and heavier in her hand.

Maya sighed.

"I just can't figure this out," she whispered.

Maya remembered something her grandmother often told her.

"You don't have to know everything by yourself."

Maya thought about those words.

Maybe asking for help didn't mean she wasn't smart.

Maybe it meant she was still learning.

But she was still nervous.

Maya took a deep breath.

She walked over to Ms. Rivera.

"Ms. Rivera?" Maya asked quietly.

"Yes, Maya?"

"I don't understand this part of the project. Could you please help me?"

Ms. Rivera smiled.

"Of course! I'm glad you asked."

Maya looked surprised.

"You're not upset?"

"Not at all," said Ms. Rivera. "Asking questions is one of the ways we learn."

Maya felt a little less nervous.

Ms. Rivera didn't do the project for Maya.

Instead, she read the instructions with her and asked a few questions.

"What do you think this part means?"

Maya looked at the page again.

"I think it means I need to show the different stages of the plant growth."

"Exactly!" said Ms. Rivera.

Suddenly, the instructions made sense.
