I dedicate this book to my teachers, family, and everyone who wants to learn more about computers.
I hope this book helps readers discover how computers work and why every component is important!

The monitor is an output device. Its job is to display words, pictures, videos, games, and other information.
The computer sends visual information to the monitor through a connection such as HDMI or DisplayPort. A graphics processor helps create the images that appear on the screen.
Without a monitor or another display, it would be much harder to see what the computer is doing!

The keyboard is an input device. It lets us type letters, numbers, symbols, and commands.
When I press a key, the keyboard sends a signal to the computer. The CPU and software process that input, and the monitor can display the letter or number I typed.
The keyboard helps us write stories, complete homework, search the internet, and communicate with others.

The mouse is an input device that helps us move a pointer on the screen. We can click, double-click, scroll, and drag objects.
When I move the mouse, it sends movement information to the computer. When I click an icon, the computer processes my command and may open a program or file.
The mouse works with the CPU, software, and monitor to make navigating the computer easy.

The motherboard is the main circuit board inside a computer. It connects important components, including the CPU, memory, storage devices, and expansion cards.
Electrical pathways and connectors allow components to exchange information. The motherboard also helps distribute power from the power supply to the parts that need it.
Without the motherboard, the computer's components would not have the connections they need to work together.

CPU stands for Central Processing Unit. It carries out instructions, performs calculations, and helps control the computer's activities.
The CPU gets instructions and data from memory, processes them, and sends results to other components. For example, when I use a calculator app, the CPU helps perform the calculations.
The CPU works closely with RAM, the motherboard, storage, and input and output devices to run programs.

Computers may seem complicated, but every component has a job.
The CPU processes, RAM remembers information temporarily, storage saves files, input devices send commands, and output devices show the results.
Remember: Great computers work because their parts work together!
