Cheetahs
By: Noelle Staiano
Illustrated by: Mrs. Farinelli's Class
Aa
Cheetahs are the world’s fastest
land mammal. They accelerate
from 0 to 60 miles an hour in
just three seconds.
BbCheetahs chase down
their prey and then
bite its throat, killing it
by cutting off its air
supply.
CcMost male Cheetahs live
alone but some of them
live in groups called
coalitions.
DdCheetah cubs have
downy fur known as a
mantle on their necks
extending to their mid
back.
EeCheetahs have “tear marks”
that run from the inside corners
of their eyes down to the
outside edges of their mouth.
These marks help reflect the
glare of the sun when they are
hunting during the day.
FfThe cheetah’s fur is
covered in solid black
spots, and so is their skin.
The black fur grows out of
the black spots on their
skin.
Gg
The young cub has a
long gray-blue coat
and a black underbelly
that rapidly lightens
and becomes spotted.
HhThe habitats that
cheetahs live in are
deserts, savannas,
scrubs, bush and open
woodlands of Africa.
IiThe name cheetah
comes from an Indian
word meaning "spotted
one."
JjIf a young cub loses its
original family it will
find another family and
join them.
KkSome Cheetahs have a
blotched appearance to
their coat with stripes and
loops. These are known
as King cheetahs.
LlCheetahs have wide
nostrils, large lungs,
strong hears and strong
arteries which provide
more oxygen to their
muscles allowing them
to run fast.
Mmenter text here
Cheetahs have a
flexible spine and leg
muscles which allows
them to make a stride
of 25 feet.
NnCheetahs usually hunt
during daylight,
preferring early morning
or early evening, but is
also active on moonlit
nights.
OoFemales cheetahs tend
to avoid each other but
they may share home
ranges that overlap.
PpOnce they reach
their target they
use their front
paw to trip their
prey.
QqCheetahs quickly consume
as much of its catch as
possible before it is taken
by stronger predators,
such as lions or hyenas.
