Rosie was a fire bird. In those days, fire birds
were considered evil, and cruel. She believed
herself to be one of the last one the planet
Spazulia on which she resided. She had only two
friends, that had been through a hard time to be
allowed even to see her. Their names were Pip
and SunStar. Pip was small and white , and
SunStar was big, with a black back and bright
yellow and orange markings on her chest.

They lived in what is now known as the planet
Spazulia (it was the 31st planet to be discovered,
just after planet Juno). At that time only bird-like
species lived there, although Fire Birds were a rarity.
It had one sun, and twenty-seven moons. Pip,
SunStar, and Rosie had been banished to the un-
inhabited plains. They were supposed to farm the
land or something, but that was impossible. Pip
usually just snuck into the market for food.

"I'm hungry" said Rosie, "Do you think we can get some
berries in Kawonski city?". Kawonski city was the capital
of Spazulia. Pip nodded eagerly, but SunStar shook her
head.
"They'd never let us in, and we can't get past the fence.
Plus, everybody thinks you're evil, Rosie". Rosie nodded
sadly.
"Yes, let's try, let's try, try try!!" said Pip, bouncing up
and down. SunStar shook her head, but allowed Pip to
try the gate.
"Where is your entrance pass?!" barked one of the duck
guards.
"Uh," Pip stuttered. He had almost forgotten about the
passports required to get into the city. It was to keep
banished citizens from re-entering to take supplies.

"Here" Pip slipped a paper into one of the ducks wings.
Now, Pip is no baby, but a very crafty thief and spy for
Rosie and SunStar. The second the guard took the
paper (which happened to be a Happy Birthday card)
Pip slipped through a slot in the gate and ducked
behind a rock. He was small enough for that.
"Not a qualified pass" said the guard, "we will not
permit your entrance!".
Then he noticed Pip was gone. "After him!" they called,
and ran down the wrong path!
"Classic!" Pip snickered to himself quietly. Then Pip
silently slipped towards the city of Kawonski.

Rosie and SunStar slipped through the gate once the
guards had left, and followed Pip towards the city.
"Now all we have to do is cross the Karmata moat, get
past the second gate, slip into market, and grab a
baket of berries. Shouldn't be to hard" said Pip.
"Maybe it isn't hard for you, but what about us?"
SunStar was tired of nonsense.
"You stay here, I'll do this, cuz I'm the smallest" said
Pip, and he hurried towards the edge of Karmata moat.
He flew across it's waters and into the city. Rosie and
SunStar watched the sunset, and then the moons begin
to rise. The 17th moon had risen by the time Pip
returned. He dragged a basket of berries through the
slot in the gate. Rosie and SunStar followed him
towards the plains, where their nests were.

Rosie, Pip, and SunStar settled into their nests. Pip
set the basket of berries on a rock, and took one to
eat. The last moon rose, and they all realized how
late it was. "Goodnight" Rosie told her friends, but
they were fast asleep. She snuggled down into her
nest, and soon she was asleep as well.
"Rosie, get up!" Pip shook her the next morning. "You
missed the guards! They said that Fire Birds didn't
belong here!".

Rosie rolled over, "Of course they said that, what do
you expect?"
Pip shook his head, "They said that you're an alien
from some other planet, that you're an intruder! Of
course, it's not your fault, but I think they might be
right!".
Rosie sat up, "Talk slower, and what planet were
they talking about?".
SunStar walked over, "They said planet Desratinga"
"Des what?" asked Rosie.
"Des-ra-tin-ga" Pip said the word slowly.
"Never heard of it" said Rosie.
Pip tossed their used nests in a pile."Hurry up!"

"They said that you are going to be taken there in ten
minutes, except they said that nine minutes ago".
Rosie lept up, "They said what?!" she shrieked, "That
they're taking me to another planet in one minute?".
"30 seconds now" corrected Pip. He hopped into a
gigantic bag, and closed it behind him. "Patend dat we
wuggage" She heard his muffled voice say. The next
second an entire troop of duck guards marched up,
pulling a small rocket with them.
"Get in" commanded on of them, "and take your alien
junk with you!". Rosie lugged her friends (in the bag)
into the ship. Within an hour they were on a new
planet. "Desratinga" breathed Rosie.

Before Rosie could say another word, she was pushed
out onto the planet's surface. The rocket blasted off into
the cloudy sky. Rosie unclipped the case in which her
friends were hidden in. They jumped out and examined
their new surroundings. "Desratinga appears to be un-
inhabited, likely discovered by Spazulia citizens. That
means we're not on Rosie's planet. We're on Spazulian
territory, and we're stuck here," Pip announced. SunStar
muttered something about guards under her breath, but
listened to Pip for a moment.
"What are we going to eat, on this ridiculous planet"
grumbled SunStar. Clang! Rosie jumped back as part of
a metal fence clattered to the ground. SunStar had
kicked it out of frustration. "So these guards were trying
to strand us in a pen, huh" SunStar was not in a good
mood.

"Let's start with food" Pip was ignoring SunStar's
grouchy remarks, "There are plenty of berry bushes
around here. What do you make of them, Rosie?".
Rosie flapped over, "Safe to eat, alright" she said,
"You stole these from the foreign market stand one
time Pip, remember?"

Pip nodded. "Oh," he said, "I remember all right. That
merchant was not telling anyone where they were from,
and I almost got caught when he turned around".
Rosie plucked a berry and nibbled thoughtfully, "If he got
them from here, than this planet must have visitors
from time to time." Clang, Bang, Clong, Crach, BOOM!
SunStar quickly dodged the falling remains of the metal
fence.
"Well that fence sure wasn't built well" observed Pip.

"Now that the fence is down, let's take a little
time to explore" SunStar was obviously curious
about their new surroundings. She had neer
been away from Spazulia before.
"Why not?" asked Pip, "But let's bring supplies
first". Rosie hopped of the case that her friends
had hidden in, "Let's stuff this with berries". Pip
nodded, and eagerly began filling the case.
SunStar helped him, and soon they were off on
their journey.

"What a land" breathed Pip, "Too bad nobody else lives
here". He stopped suddenly, "Wasn't our fence knocked
down?" he asked, for they had come suddenly upon
another fenced in area.
SunStar nodded, "The rest of it fell down when I kicked
it".
Pip hurried over to the gate. "Locked" he called back.
He gave it a shove, "And a lot stronger than the one we
had! Say, do you think this is like their prison planet?".
The same idea had occurred to Rosie, and she nodded.
Something suddenly moved behind the fence, and they
jumped back. Rosie stared, for the creature behind the
fence was a Fire Bird! She wished Fire Birds could fly as
high as the fence, but they simply couldn't do it. "It is a
prison planet" she whispered, "but I think most of the
prisoners are innocent"

Hello
"Innocent?" repeated Pip, "what evidence do you have
to support this theory?".
Rosie looked at him, "Okay detective Pip, where's your
notebook?" she teased.
Pip produced a notebook from under his wing, "Here" he
said, "now state the facts". This is what Pip wrote in his
notebook:
Clues to why the mysterious planet-
- Fire bird prisoners, which are likely
innocent
-multiple prison areas
-sent by guards
Guess: The Fire bird's planet was taken over by
planet Spazulia? This is the Fire Bird planet?
This is Spazulia's planet?

"I'm Rosie, and I and my friends are here for the same
reason."
Magma nodded. " I suppose you are also from the Fire
bird planet project, are you not?".
Rosie tipped her head sideways, trying to understand,
"I don't know what that is".
"It was an exploration project of 30 Fire Birds that left
our home planet a few years ago, but it seems most
were stranded on planet Spazulia when the ship
crashed there. We were then slowly imprisoned on this
planet, and few have been able to escape".
